// summary : returning back to your hometown after a couple of years, you didnt expect to be invited as someone's fake date for a party - one time becomes two to three, until you're basically each other's default partnersㅡ but what happens when everything comes to an end?
“mom, im fine.” you reiterated, a sigh escaping your lips afterwards, “the house is too big for me- i'll be lonely if i were to stay there.” on the other line of the call, your mother groans as she finally accepts your decision after almost five-minute nagging which causes a smile to invade your feature, “hmm. i'll see you soon.” you bid goodbye with a smile once your call was settled.
walking along the corridor, you slipped your phone back inside your blazer's pocket as you approach the elevators. when the elevator ride came to a halt, you stepped out and walked across the spacious lobby of the hotel. rather than booking a car or a taxi, you prompted on walking your way to the restaurant your friend had told you where she would be waiting.
along your walk, you've realized that there are so many changes on the place you grew up in. the buildings you used to pass by when you were only a highschool student became taller and now were painted, some stores were renovated, while some of which you frequented before are now nowhere to be found, replaced with new ones that you would gladly check out soon.
it has been years since you left your hometown for college, continuing your life as a working adult afterwards in a foreign country. if not for your bestfriend who's getting married in days, you probably still wont come back here but here you are now, weaving through the sea of busy people and on your way to meet your highschool friendㅡ waves of nostalgia, childish curiosity and excitement rushing through you all at the same time.
"oh myㅡ y/n!" your closest friend squealed in delight upon landing her eyes on you, standing up a bit as she welcomes you with a rather tight hug, "you idiot, i've missed you!"
rolling your eyes, you call out her name in a drawl "we literally facetimed each other every chance we got!"
"still! its been so long since i saw you personally!"
"uh, you saw me personally two months ago though? when you visited me abroad, remember?"
"you know whatㅡ fck you." she spat in childish annoyance, "have a seat before i leave you here if you keep trying to get in my nerves."
letting out a loud laugh, you sat yourself across her as words of catching up flowed smoothly between the both of you, together with the topic of her upcoming wedding. hours had passed before you took notice of the time, surprised at how quickly the time went by and you decided to part ways with a promise of meeting again soon to have a girl's bonding day.
you made your way back to the hotel where you are currently staying, walking across the vast lobby where few people lounge. you've decided to stay here instead of your own house since there's no one there. the only family you have that's supposed to be living there, which is your mom, is currently on a trip and will be coming back in a week or so but you didnt want to be alone. standing as you wait for the lift to open up, your attention was glued to the group of people dressed in dresses and suits standing infront of you. maybe someone's holding a wedding here.. or perhaps a party. when the lift opened, you didnt bother squeezing yourself together with the said people, opting to just wait for the next one instead.
