The moonlight shone on the pavement. An eerie mist had settled around the dark, deserted street. Not a soul was to be seen. All the street lamps had been turned off. Not even a cat dared to stroll on Red Crossing Street at this hour.

Suddenly, a figure arrived and stopped right in front of the first house on Red Crossing. She was huffing and puffing like crazy. Perhaps, she had stopped to catch her breath.

Within few minutes, she had started on once again. With her huge, black cloak billowing behind her, she ran on. She ran for her life. Not even daring to look behind her, not even making sure that she was not being followed. She just kept running on. All her fears, all those torments, all those memories,  she wanted to leave them far behind, far away where they would not come trailing after her, where she could live in peace and do whatever she wanted. No nagging, no you-should-know-better; or don't do this, don't do that. None of that would be a part of her life now. She felt like a caged bird set free for the first time in her life. Even though her limbs ached from running so much, still a beautiful smile adorned her sharp features. She tucked a stray strand behind her ear, looked at the sky and laughed like a maniac. She couldn't help it. What had seemed impossible had now happened. She had taken the first step. And there was no going back now.
