Driving down the street was never so long. Wanting to get home Mila began to drive a bit over the speed limit. She was under a lot of stress. As she finally reached the driveway of her house she stepped out of the car and walked up to the wooden door. She saw a note on the door of the house. Mila slowly grabbed the note off the door and stepped inside. She placed the letter on the table and walked into her room forgetting all about it. She sat on her bed and slowly slid under the covers. Then let out a sigh of exhaustion.
It had been a long, tiring, confusing day. She was just happy that she was home. For the next few minutes she sat there examining her ring wondering if it was just a dream. She closed her eyes.
It was real.
Knowing this she smiled to herself and took it off and set it on the nightstand beside her. She let out another sigh but this time it was a sigh of happiness. Mila then closed her eyes and went to sleep.
The next day Mila woke up to the sound of a loud truck. She raced out of bed at quickly as she could. She ran outside quick enough to see a bulldozer heading toward the evergreen.
"STOP!" She yelled
The bulldozer stopped. She could see a man step out of the large machine and slam the door shut in anger. He looked 30 or 40, she could see him clearly now as he was walking toward her. He had brown hair that looked like he had bed head. And green eyes that looked dead into hers. His lip quivered in frustration as he stopped in front of her.
"What." He asked with an obvious annoyance in his voice.
"What are you doing?!" She asked in confusion.
"God if I hadn't heard of at least 20 people a day ask me that a day!" He said now angrier. "Didn't you get the letter?" He said
Mila immediately remembered the letter on the table.
"No." She said clearly lying.
"This tree is getting blowed down because of numerous complaints."
"Complaints? From who?" Mila said in a shocked voice.
"That isn't important. What is important is that I get on with my job before I get fired!"
"Wait! What if I give you money? Mila was desperate now."Then will you call off the bulldozing?"
"Well.....how much?" He said clearly interested.
"A hundred dollars." Mila said confident that would change his mind.
"Ha!" He said laughing. "No deal! For that much! I could sue you for at least two hundred for stopping me."
Mila looked disappointed.
"How much then? Just tell me!" She said saddened by his laughter to her offer.
"Two thousand."He said more serious now.
"Two thousand?"
"Two thousand."he said
"Well I don't have that kind of money!" Mila was scared for the tree. And curious to who sent a complaint.
"You have one week to get that money or this tree will be nothing but a stump."
