It's Senior year, my last year at Mercy High before I go off to Stanford. I can finally leave this shit town with my best friend and be on our own.
My childhood best friend, Avery. Avery Whitten has been my best friend since 5th grade. He knows every single thing about me. And we're finally going to leave Mercy together. Away from my mother who's too busy with everything else in her life to worry about me.
After Dad died, in my mom's eyes I died too. She's never been the same. We were a perfect little family, had movie nights and ate dinner together every night. Without him in our lives she's changed completely. I think I remind her of him and that's why she resents me.
He owned an auto repair shop and we were living comfortably. Until he was brutally killed in an armed robbery. The shop went under soon after that and we lost almost everything. Ever since then mom has worked double shifts at the local diner to keep the house afloat. I focus on my academics so I can get a full ride to Stanford and get the hell out of Mercy.
First Avery and I just need to get through this last year and we'll be on our way. Avery came from a good family. The family that goes to Church every Sunday. His parents own the local grocery store. They're basically my parents since I lost Dad and Mom is basically a ghost. His parents will never stop telling us that we're soulmates.
Like Avery Whitten is my soulmate.
Ew! He's like my brother. Plus, he doesn't like me anyways. He's just my partner in crime who has been there with me through it all.
Especially after Dad died.
His parents let me stay with them for a few weeks because Mom couldn't get off the couch. After she burned through all of our savings, she finally got the job at the diner. It's been just Avery and I ever since. 9 more months and then we're Stanford bound!
That was the plan... until the Big Bad Bullies came into my life. First off, who even gives themselves a group name like that.
I mean c'mon, "big bad bullies," it sounds straight out of Diary of a Wimpy Kid.
They're the three richest sons in California, and they transferred to little ole Mercy High.
It was literally in the local newspaper, that's how big of a deal them coming to Mercy was.
Now why would the three richest boys transfer to a public highschool from their beloved Crystal Lakes Academy? That's the big question everyone was dying to know.
But I was the only one to figure it out. They came to torture me. They came to destroy me, to see me break. To ruin my future before I even got the chance to get out of Mercy.
But why is Brooks Foster and his boys after me?
Avery thinks it's because I'm hot but there is no way they find me attractive.
Right? I mean they have every girl in the 20 mile radius of Hillsborough throwing themselves at them.
