LITTLE WHITE LIES
Chapter IV.

A scene from 'Flower of Hell' that Rowen vividly remember is when Sylvia pointed a dagger to Yïen's throat. . .

After a long day of hunting magical beasts for the succession competition, Yïen went home, and in her bed sat a furious Sylvia.

"I wasn't expecting to see you here, darling," Yïen spoke softly, tired from the long day of holding her sword tightly and surviving.

Sylvia did not respond, nor did she greet Yïen with a kiss on the cheek like she would usually do. Instead, Yïen found a dagger dangerously near her neck.

"How could you. . . " Sylvia muttered, tears were falling down her eyes relentlessly as she glared at the taller woman who is shocked at what was happening.

"H-How. . how could you- how dare you?!" Using her free hand, the silver blue-haired girl wiped the tears off her face. "Cassis is dead. You know that he's dead! When are you going to tell me? Do you even plan on telling me?!"

Yïen could not hide her shock, she wasn't expecting that Sylvia would find out that fast.

"Sylvia, I did it for your sake." Yïen gently grabbed her wrist, trying to divert the blade from her neck. But Sylvia wasn't moved, she deepened the weapon to Yïen's neck until there was blood dripping from it.

Yïen just sighed, blade on her skin was nothing at this point. "Give me a chance to defend myself," Yïen uttered in a tired voice, she has no energy left for dealing with an angry Sylvia at the moment.

The youngest Pedelian shook her head, "No! What could possibly be your reason?! I've been searching everywhere in hopes that I will find him- alive. A-And I just found out that the person I've been looking for was already lifeless! And you have the audacity. . . to bury him without informing us first."

By now, Sylvia was shaking in anger. She kept ranting and ranting with tears like waterfall coming from those golden orbs that Yïen gets lost to everytime, but not this time.

Yïen grabbed Sylvia's wrist once again, a little harsher than she intended. The dagger fell out of Sylvia's grip and made a loud thud once it hit the floor.

The younger woman yelped when Yïen tightened her grasp on her wrist, it feels as though her bone would snap in two in a matter of seconds.

While Yïen grew up with a weak immunity and a fragile physique, her training taught her body to be strong. It was hell, but she's thankful to her mentors.

"Your father knows, he agreed to keep it a secret from you- from you and the public," Yïen said calmly, letting go of her wrist.

Sylvia didn't know what's more painful, her nearly-broken wrist or the fact that her father and lover kept his brother's death from her.

"Your family is prone to get attacked by other families if you don't have a heir. We all know House Pedelian's male bloodline are the only qualified to rule. Do you want to be sent away? I was going to tell you as soon as I get my title as the ruling monarch of my house."

"Moreover, if I told you about it. . . I'm sure it'll break your heart. We found him in pieces, and I'm sure he didn't have a peaceful death. I don't want to see your mournful expression, I don't want to see you hurt- I'm scared you will harm yourself when you hear the news. . . "

"I'm. . . sorry." Yïen sighed, she walks closer to Sylvia who were rubbing her wrist. She caresses her cheek, wiping her tears.

The golden-eyed woman shoved her hand away and using her uninjured hand, she slapped her. It didn't hurt Yïen in the slightest, as the force was weak and her hands are soft.

"Do you think I'm not mournful when I am looking for him? I was going crazy! And you weren't even there to provide me support! You're not there to help me find him and now I know why. . ."

Yïen stroked her own cheek softly, Sylvia realized her mistake but remained unmoved.

"You think you're the only one who's hurting? I lost my best friend! If you don't remember, Cassis is my damn best friend! He's important to me too! And I was the one who found him in chunks!"

Her mother would slap her as a form of punishment. An action that Yïen hated with all her heart. And for a second, she saw her mother in Sylvia.

"Why can't you understand?! I'm. . . just trying to protect you."

Yïen ran her fingers up her hair in frustration. Never in her life had someone dared raised their hand on her, with the exemption of her mother. She would've already beheaded her, had Sylvia been another person.

"I. . . don't want see you. . . for now, at least." She looked away.

Yïen raises an eyebrow, amused. Soon that amusement turned into a wicked smirk.

"Heh, do you think mourning for his death would bring him back to life?" Yïen asked her, it was toneless and somewhat cold. An all too familiar feeling enveloped the youngest Pedelian, causing her to back away in mild dread.

In the chapter, Yïen snapped at her. Something that the readers has been expecting since the beginning, something that the character, Yïen held throughout half of the novel.

Stepping closer as Sylvia backs away, she grabbed her chin and pulls her closer to her face.

Sylvia tried not to slump, as her knees was getting weak. She spoke, "I have every right to mourn his death."

Yïen chuckled lightly, followed by a scoff. "You have the right? Is that because you're her sweet adorable little sister? What were you doing in the past months while looking for him?"

The two of them were already in a relationship not long after Cassis was found dead, and in the same chapter- Yïen confronted her about the other leads in the story.

The chapter shocked many readers, they had the impression that Yïen is unaware of the other men Sylvia has been with, like the other members of her harem.

"While I was fighting for my life. . . you're sleeping with other bastards."

"H-How did you. . ." Sylvia asked, frightened. Yïen chuckled at this.

"Did you seriously think I wouldn't know? I'm Yïen Defran, I am aware of every happenings in this nation. And I'm especially informed of every move you make."

"Yïen. . . I. . ."

"Of course you don't need to apologize, my love. I've already forgiven you. I let it all slide because I love you. But I've got to admit. . . it did hurt a lot."

"But you have to keep in mind. . . forgiving isn't the same as forgetting. You might be safe, but your little boy toys won't." Yïen softly kissed her forehead and left to sleep on another room.

The next day, one of the male lead's has been severely injured from a failed assassination attempt.
