RAISING THE DEAD FLAG
Chapter I.

"Father, that human," Rowan Agriche looked down on the tied-up man on the ground, "It's different from the other toys you've brought before."

"It's the son of an arrogant bastard," Lant Agriche said, as if the word human was not an accurate description of the person.

"I've brought him here to re-educate him." The current master of House Agriche was smirking down the prisoner bound by chains.

Rowen recognized the man from one look. It was due to his presence. He had the domineering aura of a lead character in this world.

"May I play with this toy?" He asked, inspecting the current state of the future ruler of House Pedelian of Blue. "I will teach it well," he added.

"Me too! Me too!" Two voices cried out, Rowan's younger siblings who had both inherited his father's sadistic personality. They grinned avidly at the new-comer, as if they were baby birds knowing that there was prey before their eyes.

Cassis was glaring at them with such intensity, refusing to back down even in his current situation. Rowen was the first to notice. "This toy's gaze is rather rebellious, father," he spoke.

"Keep it in the dungeons until it learns some manners," Lant Agriche said. At his command, the guards grabbed the man by the hair. The prisoner lurched back, he was gagged and his hands were bounded by chains but his eyes shows that he was not defeated. His pride took over and his body refused to flinch any longer.

Rowen felt chills crawl up his spine looking the pitiful state of the heroine's older brother. He wondered how much harsher would their deaths be if they knew that he'd be tortured first before putting an end to his misery.

"Oh this toy is going to be fun," one of his siblings said. "I want to play with it soon," said the other one.

Indeed, the prisoner. He was the older brother of the female lead of this world, Cassis Pedelian.

Yïen was fixated on doing paperworks, it was a busy day in the Defran household. She was tasked to review the business proposals that was sent by various families, she'd then make the decision to approve or decline the request.

Upon acceptance, she would have to write a response setting the date of the future meeting. It was tiring, she has been reading business proposals first thing in the morning.

Some of the proposals wasn't even written decently, it was torture reading through them, even her dog could write a more acceptable request and with decent handwriting.

She can't blame them though, some commoners did not have the privilege to study.

Proper grammar, correct punctuation, and message writing was a luxury that some of them can not afford. It was exclusive to people with money and high standing.

The door of the her office abruptly opened, she was not shaken by the sudden action, reaching for the sword in the side of her waist.

She stopped writing and raised her head up to meet the eyes of her terrified personal knight.

"Lady Yïen! News has spread throughout the entire capital. H-House Pedelian has confirmed the news as well. ." he was panting heavily as though he ran through a three-hundred kilometer marathon.

"House Pedelian? Did something happen?" She asked, letting go of her grip on her sword's handle upon confirmation that there's no threat.

"House Pedelian of Blue's heir, Cassis Pedelian has gone missing," Aeodeus said, the heavy quill that was within her grasp earlier fell to the ground with a thud.

While Rowen's younger siblings were excited at the prisoner's appearance, there was only one thought in his head.

. . . They were screwed.

By bringing in the man, his father has raised a dead flag; a flag that symbolizes the deaths of everyone in their family.
