"Why does my house look like this, Christopher Kellin Mirta!" my mother yelled pointing at the state of the house from my party the night before. Im glad I got the bloodstains out of her carpet "Mom, I was going to clean up but things got busy-" I felt a stinging in my cheek. She yells "Shut up, Christopher! You're so disobedient, why don't you ever listen?!" I bite my lower lip to refrain from yelling at her. She pushes me and hits my chest, yelling insult after insult, she must have stopped taking her meds again. My dad finally comes in grabbing her arms "Chris, son. Please just go out for a while till she's calm, I'll call the maid," he tells me with a sad smile. Coward. I nod my head, quickly running upstairs to grab some of my things before taking off, I'll probably be away from the house for a couple of days with her in that state.
I sigh finally making it to Slater's house, Harvey is already here "Hey, Chris, sweety," Slater's mom says walking up to me and hugging me. I give her a weak smile "Hello, Dr. Yazid," she looks up at me and gasps "Oh sweety your cheek is red and swollen, are you okay?" I smile trying to shake it off "Yes, yes. Im okay," she rubs my shoulder "Ok if you need an icepack I'll grab one," I thank her and make my way to Slater's room.
He sat lounged on the bed and Harvey was napping on the large love sac near his TV, he looked up at me "Hey, Chris- what's wrong?" before I knew it, tears had spilled from my eyes. I sat on his bed and sobbed into my hands "Hey, Chris. It's fine, she must have been really bad this time," he gently began to rub my back. Im so tired, I didn't even realize I was so emotionally drained from just arguing with my mom "She'll take her meds again don't worry," his voice was just as full of concern and love as always. Slater had been my best friend since we were in 2nd grade, he had always been a bit gentle and was overly kind and trusting compared to a lot of kids our age. I heard shuffling indicating Harvey woke up "Hey guys what's going on?" he says rubbing the sleep out of his eyes. Slater laughs at Harvey "Man, Harvey you sleep so much you miss everything," Harvey yawns walking over and leaning on my shoulder. They're both like my younger brothers, so them being overly clingy and seeing me cry was normal for us.
When we were younger we were all made fun of for being this way, kids in 8th grade used to call us gay and other homophobic slurs for being overly affectionate with each other. It almost pushed Harvey over the edge once, he beat a kid so bad for calling Slater a slur that the kid went to the hospital. The small, fragile Harvey we had known for years had a lot of built-up anger back then because he never said that his grandma had passed away, she was his best friend. We met Harvey in 6th grade, he moved in next to Slater, and Slater being the social butterfly he is, started dragging poor Harvey around with us. Harvey lifts his head to look up at me "Better?" he asked, I chuckle nodding "Yeah, yeah thank you, Harvey," he smiles and grabs Slater's keys "Im hungry, let's go to the diner," Slater says as Harvey took off for the car "Hey Harvey, don't just take my keys!" I chuckle at how childish they still acted. I sighed standing up to chase after them "Let's go, Chris!" Harvey yelled, "Im coming!" I yelled back smiling to myself, I never get a break, do I?
...
I groan looking over the menu again "I can't figure it out, guys," I look up at Roxy and Molly, Molly points at my menu "Why are you having such a hard time?" she says. I show her "Look, they both look so good," Roxy says playing with the salt shaker "Get both, I'm buying," I smile, thank you, Roxy. Finally, the waitress came back "Figure it out, Mira?" the waitress has known us for years, we've all been coming here since Molly could drive, we all call her Granny May. I frown "Yeah, yeah, I want bacon cheddar fries, and a cheeseburger with onion rings," she smiled and moved on to Roxy and Molly before going to put our orders in.
I heard the door jingle "Hey, Harvey!" I heard one of the waitresses yell, I heard a quiet "Hey sis," back, Roxy smiles "Hey, guys! What are you doing here?" I really hope it's not who I think it is. I heard a familiar annoying voice "Harveys, sister works here," I finally have the courage to look up at the tall boy beside me. He looks down and smirks "Hey feral dog, how's it going?" I groan pulling my hoodie over my hair, we'd only snuck out of his house sometime this morning to go watch the sunset together.
