I nodded hastily and gave him Cal, so he can help. When I didn't move away, the woman grabbed my hand and started pulling me up. ,,Come on, let's go and wash this dirt of. My name is Gwen, and yours sweetie?". She asked whilst dragging me to a small stream by the forest.
"...Griffin..."
I looked at myself. Only now I realised that I'm covered in dirt, tears still falling from my eyes. The tears flowed stronger when I saw the blood on my hands, not my blood, but his...
All around me I noticed people crying, shaking from the loss of a loved one. Some are walking around the group that formed at the forest edge when all escaped, searching, in hope they're family made it out.
I cried, remembering how my family died, we were at the front gates, trying to get out, when...
The guards, they started to stab the people in the front if they come near them. That's when shit started to go down. Everyone screamed, the fire coming from our back, the guards at our front. My dad was one of the first to die, my brother and sister following in the attempt to get to him. I ran away, I was too scared to help them.
So I wanted to help the only other person I care about. I searched, and pushed my way through the crowd, back to the flames, then I saw him, just staring into the sky. After that, it's all blurry.
I got pulled back to reality when Gwen asked me to if I have any wounds I need to clean. I shook my head, it was unfair, I should be the one fighting for my life. I was the one who just ran away, he never did anything wrong.
"Sweetie, we need to get that dirt off, even if you don't have any wounds, it can't be good to stay that way." She pushed my shoulders down so I won't walk away. I didn't know what to do, so I just sat down on the ground. She sighed and grabbed my hands, trying to not touch the blood. Then she shoved them in the water.,,Now wash yourself, and maybe you should take that shirt off, I'll try get you a new one." She stood up and walked to a rather large group of people. I got rid of the dirt on my hands and face. I then looked at my shirt. 'why should I change- oh, it's full of blood...', I sighed and took it off.
When I got rid of all the dirt and blood on me, Gwen was already there and handed me a shirt:,,It may be a bit big, but it's better than that one." I thanked her and took the shirt.
I looked at the stream, the stars got reflected by the clear water. I turned to Gwen :,,Y'know, when I was younger Cal and me would always sneak out at night to look at the stars from the hill by the walls. My dad always told me the stories of the stars ", I looked at the stars and laughed ",, Later that day I would tell them to Cal to impress him." She laughed and then asked me:,, Do you recognise any stars right know?" She turned her gaze towards the sky. "That's the Big Dipper, when you can see him, you would also be able to find the Little Dipper and the Polaris, also known as the North Star."
She smiled :,,Impressive. Maybe I can still learn something new from you." ,,I would be glad to teach it to you. My dad always said how important it is to make the stars and their stories known." She smiled at me and then got up :,, let's go to the others. I think we'll have a little bit of sleep to catch up." I nodded and followed her.
On our way we passed the little place for the injured. Cal looked okay, he looked by far not great, but he's still alive, that all that's matters at the moment. Tomorrow will be a new day, we'll se what happens.
