No body's POV
After the passing of Ashton's mother, Tyler backed off as most of the school looked upon him in pity. He kept drawing and stayed with his friends who were always there for him.
Now, he is a happy twenty-four year old with a good career of art in front of him. Living with Oliver only a few streets over from Mercy and Sandy.
They're no longer in their home town but visit every holiday to spend time with their family.
"Ash! Are we picking the girls up or are they picking us up?" Oliver calls through the boys' house as he attempts to tie his tie.
"We're picking them up, and I'm right here. You don't need to yell," Ashton smiles as he comes into the bathroom he and his boyfriend share.
"Sorry, could you help?" The man holds the ends of his red tie in defeat as Ashton laughs and ties it for him.
The two finish dressing for the Christmas dinner back home and make their way to get the girls. "I look good right?" Oliver turns to Ashton once in the car. Simply dressed in black jeans, sneakers and a white dress shirt under a black vest.
"Yes, I assure you that you look wonderful," the other man smiles as he admires the green eyes looking happily back into his brown ones.
"Well you look better," he smiles, planting a kiss on the boy's lips as a blush spreads over his face. Even the simple red tie over a black dress shirt and jeans looks good to Ashton. Anything his boyfriend wears looks good to him.
The girls are dressed nicely as well, getting in the car to be driven to the twins' parents home where they greet all the family members who came.
The family feasts on the food prepared before exchanging gifts, happily laughing and having a wonderful time as the day passes.
By nightfall the four kids are in the car to head home with smiles on their faces. Before they leave town, though. Oliver stops the car in front of the cemetery where Ashton's mother was buried.
"Do you want us to come with you?" Sandy offers in a kind tone.
"I'm okay, thanks," Ashton smiles back as he gets out of the car. He walks to his mother's grave, kneeling in the snow before it with a single dandelion, her favorite flower. "It may be snowy but this flower is still beautiful." He wipes the snow off the stone before setting the flower in front of it.
He speaks as if she's still here, telling her about everything he's been doing and how fun the day has been. When he's finished he takes a deep breath before standing, only to come face to face with a nervous Oliver.
"Ashton, I've been wanting to ask you something for a while now and I've finally gotten the courage to do it." He starts. "I know this isn't the best place for this but I know this place is special. You come here every time we're in town and before we left you'd come here when you felt overwhelmed. So in front of your mother who I hope would approve of what I'm about to do."
Ashton's hands cover his mouth as soon as his boyfriend's knees start bending and his hands go into his pocket.
"You are the best thing to have ever happened to me and I promise to keep you safe and happy for as long as I live. Ashton Smith, would you do me the honor of marrying me?"
"Well, we have been dating for eight years and most of them have been spent in the same house," he manages to play it cool for a moment. "Of course I will you lovable dork!" The two engulf each other in a giant hug and Oliver can't express his happiness in any other way than picking the smaller boy up and spinning him around in the hug before kissing his soft lips with so much love he can't express.
"I love you with all my heart," he says as Ashton puts the beautiful ring on his left ring finger.
"I love you too," Ashton smiles up at his now fiance' as the girls cheer from the car, making the two laugh.
The day was amazing and it only got better in the years following. Marrying the man of his dreams and even having two kids, Max and Leah, Ashton and his family lived a happy life. Mercy and Sandy had a lovely daughter as well. Her name is Tayler and she is loved by both of her mothers and uncles.
The group of friends never failed to be there when they needed each other and they never planned on changing that.
