"Okay, the question is where do we begin in finding this person?" Fatima asked, all five of them now taken station in her bedroom. She crossed her legs on her bed, placing both of her elbows on her knees and leaned forward. "Because I don't know."
Haru sat on the floor near the bed, placing an arm on the mattress to look at her. Jason, who had taken his spot and straddled her chair, simply hummed in response. It was good to know that his best friend was as blank as he was.
Rain sighed and flopped on the bed next to Fatima, laying down completely with one leg hanging off the bed. "Well, we could just straight up talk to the head of this town."
"He's a busy man," Jason said, placing his chin on his fists that were stacked on top of each other at the back of the chair. "Besides, even if we could see him, do you think he'll divulge the information?"
Silence washed into the scene for a few seconds before a loud groan broke it. Haru tossed a glance at Adam, who was sitting up against the wall, his Bag tossed unceremoniously next to him. He still had no idea why the resident bad boy was with them. One would think that after the outburst of him calling them stupid, he would run away and leave them alone.
He flitted his gaze at Rain.
Though, Haru suspected he was staying because of her. Probably to make himself look cool or something, as if anything could fix his stupid face.
"What?" Jason said, voice dry. "You seem to have something to say."
Adam sat up straighter. "I do have something to say. You guys are stupid."
"Okay, asshole," Jason replied, rolling his eyes. "If we're so stupid, what should we do first?"
"Go to the fucking library, that's what." Adam took off his cap and ran a hand through his hair, some of his dark strands landed heavily to one side of his face, obstructing his eye. He looked like he had a bird's nest on his head.
"Go to the library?" Haru said, turning his body to look at him properly without having to crane his neck in an unnatural and uncomfortable angle. "For what?"
"What do you think, doofus?" Adam huffed a breath. "Where do you think records of any legislation and law amendments are kept?"
"But at the library?" Fatima said, scepticism clear in her voice. When Haru glanced at her, she had her eyebrows furrowed and lips tugged downwards. "Why would they keep government official documents in a public library?"
"We don't live in a huge place, you know," Adam said. "Heck, the head of this place has his office in his home. Where do you think he keeps this shit?"
Haru opened his mouth before he closed it. That asshole had a point. Much to his dismay. When did Adam started to make sense? The world ending was a more likely outcome than this.
"Alright," Rain said, shocking Haru. "Let's go there then."
"You're agreeing with him?" Jason asked, though the corner of his lips twitched upwards for a second.
She rolled her eyes, scooting to the edge of the bed, a leg almost hitting Haru. "I'm just saying, maybe there's a lead we can chase there."
"It can't be that easy," Fatima said but she stood up from the bed, patting her shirt. Haru blinked, taking in the fact that the two most reasonable women he knew agreed with Adam.
Adam of all people!
The same Adam who would put a hole into a person's face if they even looked at him wrong!
Said troublemaker had his eyes trained on Rain, a smile settled on his lips. One that Haru thought made him look far uglier than any human had any right to be. Even a toad looked prettier than that face. He grumbled underneath his breath, standing up as well when his friends left the room. Jason sighed, placing the chair underneath the desk and patted Haru's back, his hand lingering on him for a little while longer.
