"Mum? Dad?" I croaked. No one answered. "Mum, dad!" I said a little louder. Still no reply. I fell to the floor in tears. My worst fear had come true. My parents were dead.

I shuddered at that memory. It had been several years since that incident. I was living on the streets now and honestly life wasn't too bad. I got a job at a nearby 7-Eleven where I worked five hours a day. It didn't pay much but it was better than nothing. Over the years, I've collected quite a few things to improve my living conditions. I bought a small, broken down tent about a year ago and patched it up myself. It's useful for when it rains. I also have a sleeping bag, a lantern, a few batteries, and a bag to store any extra clothes or items, not that there's much of that these days.
Of course my life isn't perfect. I'm still on the streets in the freezing cold with little more than a hoodie and there's "The Mammoth's" as they call themselves. They're a group of kids who seem to do everything they can to make my life miserable. Today just happened to be one of those days.

One of the older boys went up for a finishing punch when I used all of my strength to get up, making him hit the spot I was just at a few seconds ago. I quickly ran away towards the nearest building I could find which just happened to be where Six The Musical was playing at the moment. I weakly knocked on the stage door, hoping someone would answer before the group caught up to me.
To my luck, a few seconds after I knocked a woman walked up to the stage door. "Can I help you?" I heard her ask. "If not, can you let me pass?" I wondered if I could trust her. She seemed to work here but at the same time she could just as well leave me to the gang. I realized she was waiting for an answer so I quickly said, "These people are chasing me and I don't know what to do and-" "Calm down," The lady said. "You can come in with me. Oh, and I'm Jen by the way."
