Jen's POV:
I woke up again to someone shaking me. "Wake up Jen. It's already 10 o'clock," I heard someone say. I tiredly got up and checked the clock for myself. Jodie was right. It was 10:16 am!I quickly got ready and wolfed down some breakfast before I got the feeling that something, or rather someone, was missing. I quickly realized that the girl I brought with me yesterday was gone. "Where's Savanna?" I asked, starting to panic. "She just went out on a walk with Maddie," Jodie told me calmly. I let out a deep breath that I hadn't realized I was even holding in in the first place.
Right then, Maddie burst into the room carrying a crying Savanna. "What happened?" I asked, quickly grabbing her from Maddie and setting her down on the bed. "I fell and my knee hurts," Savanna said shakily. I quickly went over to comfort the girl and looked over at Maddie for further context.
"So basically," Maddie said, taking the hint. "we were just going on a walk when Savanna tripped and I'm pretty sure she did something to her knee when she fell. She couldn't walk without it hurting so I picked her up and brought her back as soon as possible." The poor girl, I thought, hugging Savanna tight. "We should probably go to the hospital, wherever it is here, and get it checked out," I suggested. "Just to make sure it's not something serious." Maddie and Jodie nodded in agreement. "Hey, it'll be okay," I said to Savanna, noticing her worried expression.
We soon found the hospital and arrived, having to wait on the waiting room for what seemed like hours (I mean, it probably was but still). Eventually Savanna got called back but only one person could go with her so I volunteered to go. Or should I say Maddie and Jodie forced me to go and there's the fact that Savanna had yet to let go of my hand, which she had been squeezing for the past hour or so.
I followed the nurse into a room and they introduced themselves. "Hi! You can call me Dr. Elle," she said. "Now can you tell me what brings you here today?" I could tell Savanna was trying to avoid the question, as she was nervously fidgeting with her hands. She made a few hand gestures and I was pretty sure she was using BSL. "Is she mute?" Dr. Elle asked. "Not that I know of. Maybe selectively though. I'm taking care of her at the moment. Just recently met her actually," I replied. It made sense now as the doctor said it. It definitely seemed like Savanna could be selectively mute at times. "Would you care to explain for her?" "Sure. So basically she went on a walk with one of my friends and came home being carried and she seemed to not be able to walk at all. She was complaining her knee hurt a lot." The nurse took some notes and then said, "So we are going to take her to get an X-ray to see if it's anything bad. I'll call you once we're done." I nodded and left to go back to the waiting room, waving goodbye to Savanna as I left.
