It had been three hours since the plane took off, and since the plane took off at 9pm, it was midnight. I was exhausted, so I leaned back in my seat, and closed my eyes. It was very hard to sleep, but the sleepiness did end up overwhelming me. I had a weird dream about being girly and loving fairies and mermaids, and woke up at 5am with the song “Pink Fluffy Unicorns Dancing On Rainbows” stuck in my head. Soon, after about one hour and forty five minutes, the pilot announced to the crowd, “It is now a quarter to seven, so in about twenty five minutes, we will be boarding off the plane. Please start gathering all loose items.” My brother, always being the heavy sleeper, was still sleeping like a rock. I shook him awake and told him about what the pilot just said. As soon as he realized we were about to land, he was wide awake. I pulled my iPod out of my pocket and started listening to music.
I closed my eyes, and was bobbing my head to “Break Free” by Ariana Grande, until my mom pulled my earbuds out of my ears. “What the hey?” I silently yelled. Then she explained to me that we were getting off. I put my iPod back in my pocket, and my mom and dad picked up their carry-on luggage. When we finally got off the plane, it was beautiful outside. I wanted to just stay there in the sun all day, but we had to go into the airport and gather up our luggage. So, we went inside, and waited at the machine that gave us our luggage. When our luggage finally came around, I picked mine up, and my brother got his. We couldn’t find my mom and dad’s luggage. After five minutes, we were starting to feel worried. But then finally, it came around, and we all breathed a sigh of relief.
Once we got our luggage, we went through the metal detector, and rolled our luggage out the airport door. Then we stood there for a while, wondering how we were going to walk to a car rental dealership. Eventually we saw a taxi driving by, and quickly hailed it over. We sat down with our suitcases on our laps, because they were very small, and my dad explained to the driver that we were going to the car rental dealership. As we watched the airport get smaller and smaller behind us, we realized that we had arrived. That we were there in Brazil, after two months of packing and planning, we were finally there.
I started twirling my red hair around my finger, then wondered why I was doing that, and to try to cover it up, I started picking at a loose string on my jeans. We sat there in silence, while I was staring at my brother’s crazy, curly, brown hair. My brother looked down at me, saw that I was staring, and he said, “Are you imagining that there is a brown poodle on my head again, sis?” I nodded my head laughing, and responded, “What does my red hair look like? Fire?” “No, not with that blue streak in your hair. Maybe your head is on fire, and the blue is water trying to put it out…” he retorted, smiling. I gave him my best “that-is-the-stupidest-thing-I-ever-heard” look, and rolled my eyes.
