Brody's POV
Thursday
It's a tradition at LaGuardia High for the varsity players to occasionally help out at practices for the middle school teams.
Today was a middle school practice so Nolan and I were on our way to the middle school that was down the street. We walked on the sidewalk of the beautiful city taking in the gorgeous sites of NYC. Nolan had his AirPods in listening to music while I walked in silence taking in the sounds of the city.
We eventually arrived at the middle school and went straight to the locker room to get dressed. We greeted the other varsity players there and put our things down.
"Are you excited for Mac's tomorrow?" Nolan asks while changing his shirt.
"For sure but Maisy's been on my fucking nerves lately and I don't think I'll be able to stand her at the party tomorrow" I respond.
"What happened?" He asks.
"She's been getting really mad at me cause her parents still don't like me and she wants me to get along with her family" I sigh.
"That sucks dude" he replies.
"Yeah, I want to make it up to her but sometimes she's just too intense" I say. "She can be like really mean and it just gets too much".
"Well I don't know if you remember but Randy plays volleyball here. You could try bonding with him" Nolan suggests.
A wave of realization came over me.
"Bro you're right" I exclaim.
We finished getting dressed and walked into the gym. The kids were all getting warmed up and the rest of the varsity players were making there way into the gym. I looked out at the court and spotted Maisy's little brother, Randy. I never really talked to Randy much. Whenever I went to Maisy's house he was always in his room so I never get a chance to bond with him. This was my only chance to become close with him and a chance to make it up to Maisy. My thoughts were interrupted when the middle school coach blew his whistle.
I made my way to the huddle while walking with Nolan.
"We're gonna break off into pairs with the high schoolers today" Coach stated and gestured for the varsity team to start choosing out partners.
I made my way to Randy immediately and got his attention.
"Hey, Randy" I said enthusiastically. "It's Brody, Maisy's boyfriend".
He stared at me with a blank face. This was so awkward.
"I know", he said with no emotion to his face.
"Do you wanna pair up?" I asked, trying to disregard how awkward this was.
"Yeah I guess", he answered plainly.
This is gonna be painful.
But this was all gonna be for Maisy, so I needed to make a good impression and create a bond. So Randy and I made our way to our own area in the gym and started working on drills.
After a while he started warming up to me. He started talking more and he reminded me a lot of how I was in middle school.
"Are you excited for high school?" I asked him. I remember I was so scared to go into high school when I was in eighth grade.
