Chapter Two|Everlake
Lark
Coach Morrison's whistle blew through the crowded field, the team and I had been practicing through lunch. I had been hung over from the night before, having gotten into what little coke I had left over. I felt like shit as I ran across the field, my eyes tracking the soccer ball as it moved from player to player. I would've given anything to miss practice today, although, I was the captain and I knew how pissed Morrison would be, and I didn't need to spend all of next practice doing suicide runs.
I continued to play, blowing off steam from the incident that occurred earlier. I wish someone would've told me that little shit was Katerina's brother. He looked so different from the last time I saw him. He looked like a cracked-out vampire now. I felt a little guilty for teasing the kid, though—especially after what he was going through. I would need to remember to apologize, even if that would mean swallowing my pride.
As I ran across the field, I could see Liam on the other side in the net. He was an amazing goalie, but I was a God on the field. Liam, Pogue, and I had been best friends since we were kids. He was the only one who wanted to join soccer with me, Pogue wasn't much of a sports guy. I could see him preparing as I neared, my feet carrying me quickly.
It wasn't long before I kicked the ball straight into the net, that last goal marking the end of our game and practice. I glanced over to the stands to see Pogue sitting with my sister, I still didn't know if I approved of his massive crush on her. He'd been in love with her since they met when we were kids, but she's always seemed oblivious. Lucy and I were polar opposites, she was bubbly and incredibly friendly—maybe a little too bubbly, but I digress. Our different personalities have been the reason she's my rock and I find she's the balance I need. Aside from Liam and Pogue, anyway.
I jogged over to them, grabbing my water bottle from my sister's hands.
"Hey, I just heard you were bullying my roommate's little brother," Lucy snapped, her eyes narrowing in contempt. Her ice-cold glare is something we have in common.
I huffed, "I didn't know! Wait—Katerina is your roommate?"
As the realization hit, an unwanted smile began to spread across my lips. Lucy rolled her eyes."Don't get any ideas."
"Too late."
Liam joined us at the benches, "Did you guys invite Katerina to the party? I kinda want to meet her."
I frowned, was Liam into her? I wasn't aware he even knew who she was. Although, everyone and their mother knew the Flores family. Besides, it wouldn't be the first time Liam and I chased the same girl. I would just need to work a little harder.
"Yeah. I invited her. Not sure she'll come though, since Lark pissed her off," Pogue replied, giving me a look. I scoffed, "Hey, I did her a favour. At least her brother won't be doing drugs any time soon."
"You're an ass," Lucy chastised. Liam snickered, turning to my sister.
"Lucy, you should try talking to her. I'm sure she could use some friends, we all came from New York. We're bound to have something in common," Liam said, I didn't like that he was so keen on knowing her.
"Well, I've got class. I'll see you guys later, yeah?"
I rushed off to get changed and showered, it seemed I would be spending a lot of time at Lucy's dorm from now on. There was something about Katerina Flores that was drawing me in, even if it was a terrible idea to entangle myself with her.
