Much to my dismay, the kitten was still following me.
Not wanting to lose out, I started going faster, taking different narrow routes and long cuts to my house and....
That thing was still there.
Unable to shake the kitten off, I decided to halt right across my house.
"Say, what do you want" I asked with an annoyed huff.
"I have nowhere to go" it said in a low voice, almost as if wanting to grab my pity. And unfortunately, it did catch my attention.
With a frown, I say, trying my best to sound stern "Alright, stay with me until you recall your past. But you cannot cause chaos and have to listen to me"
The cat wagged its tail and hopped on my hand.
"you know my parents are gonna freak out if they see an almost disappearing kitten, right"
"meow~ you don't need to worry"
Without saying anything else, the kitten materialized it's body.
With the kitten in arm, I walk into the house- still in a bewilderment.
"Honey, you're quite late." Mum berated from the living room.
"hehe sorry~ where's dad?" I inquire while sticking my tongue out.
"he went to a place with his pals" mum said.
"where to?"
"a place. Honey is that a kitten in your hand?"
"I... Can explain-"
"How many times do I have to tell you that animals aren't allowed in this household?"
"but mum, let me keep it here until dad comes?" I asked with teary eyes as I bit my lips, trying to act pitiful.
There was a long pause from the other side. And then...
"Alright, go to your room and sleep early." She says with a sigh.
"Thanks mum!! Your the best~" i say whilst skipping through the stairs.
Back in my room, I lock the door and look at the kitten.
"so what's your name?"
"I.... Don't know" it looked at me helplessly. "But you can give me a name!"
"Since you remind me of Moon, then how about Little Luna?"
"meow~~" the kitten wagged its tail as it sat on my lap, giving me full access of petting it's fur. I suppose thats a sign of agreement.
....
Present Time (one week later)
Pitch darkness entered my vision as I opened my eyes. Looking at my glowing wristwatch, it was exactly 7pm.
I walk downstairs with groggy eyes, accompanied by my growling stomach wanting to be filled.
"Mom?" I ask, not yet fully awake.
"oh dear look at you, you slept for such a long time. Have some food." she hands me an apple and goes to warm the food which I was probably supposed to have as a lunch.
Sitting on the chair, I silently keep the apple aside. Apple wasn't r ally my type of fruit. "when is dad going to come?"
Mom grabs a chair and sits across me. Not getting an answer, I look up. Our eyes met and I can feel something is amiss. "Mom?" I call out again.
With a sigh, she says, "Your aunties and I will be going out for a few weeks. It seems like your dad and uncles are in trouble."
She meant Mia, Perline, Ruby and Isabella's parents.
"Trouble? With work? What work is it that needs all of you to go?"
"Something. I'll tell you when I get back." She says with a laugh.
An ominous feeling creeps into my heart, but I cant exactly pinpoint as to why. I nod silently, my lips pursed into a thin line not being able to shrug off the uneasiness.
"that... how many days are you going away for?"
"About a week, actually. Don't worry about the food and all, uncle Ben will be here for u. Hmm?"
Benjamin Eliott — uncle Ben. Oh God, do I hate him till my guts turn green.
"hmm" I nod with firm eyes and a fake smile, trying to look as reassuring as possible.
A shrill cry of door bell rang throughout the house, getting into my nerves. 'I'm gonna change the door-bells someday in the future'. I think while my head is buried into a pile of food.
Mom's cry of surprise traverse into my ears as I curiously, and reluctantly, look up towards the door.
Speaking of the devil... The 'uninvited' guest looked at me and smiled. I gave him a crooked smile as he sat in front of me, where mom was supposed to sit.
Mom comes and sits beside me, nudging me at my elbow. Clearing my throat, I say "Hello uncle Ben, how have you been?"
"haha Wynter, you've grown up. I'm fine I'm fine, what about you? How have you been?" he asks with a hearty laugh.
"I'm fine too. Well, if you'll excuse me now." I say whilst getting up with my food and coolly walking upstairs.
"That was quite rude, ya'know" Little Luna says as it licked it's paw.
Sitting on the study table, I started eating aggressively, my usual coolness nowhere to be seen. "Damnable wizard can very well be damned" I say with a harrumph.
"Why so much hate?" Luna asks while it sneaks a paw into my chicken leg.
"Keep your stinky paws to yourself" I say as I take the chicken leg and continue. "He's such a weirdo. He'd always know whatever I was doing."
"And then snitch on you?" Luna asked.
"No."
"No? Then why are you making a fuss?" the cat looked at me in confusion.
Puffing my mouth, I say "Its complicated, him knowing those things he shouldnt know gets on my nerves. And then he keeps on teasing me."
"well then-" Little Luna was cut off by a series of knocking on the door. It hid under the bed as I went to open the door to reveal my mom and uncle Ben standing there.
"Dear, I'll be leaving tonight at 9pm"
"oh" I say as I look at uncle Ben "you mean him?"
"no..." uncle Ben says with an awkward look on his face.
Pouting, I hug my mom and ask, "why so soon?"
"The sooner, the better."
Feeling a taste of bitterness in my mouth, I look at the clock. 8:30pm. "you'll miss the train at this rate, don't leave please..." my plea was unanswered as mom lowered her gaze. I look at uncle Ben with pleading eyes, to which he just shrugged. Jerk.
Half an hour passed by in a depressive atmosphere. Outside the house, I see the fragile silhouette of my mom getting in the car as she gives me a smile for the last time.
And off she goes...
