Connection

It's Thursday, around break time

Sara and Kugie haven't seen each other since Monday. They're in different classes, so it's understandable, but shouldn't they still see each other at some point? The school building was pretty big, however Sara didn't understand how she never saw Kugie at the cafeteria or other places. Her curiosity stopped at one point, and she decided to forget about her. They only talked once after all, maybe the girl had even already forgotten all about Sara. But she couldn't. Sitting down at a table in the cafeteria while waiting for Joe and Ryoko, she wondered if she should just move on with her regular life. She had been feeling this weird connection towards Kugie ever since they met. It wasn't love at first sight, she just couldn't get a grasp of what exactly it was. When she snapped out of her thoughts, Joe and Ryoko were already sitting at the table, completely worried. Sara had been spacing out a lot, and her happiness seemed to fade.

"Hey, Sara. You know you can talk to us if something's wrong, right? We're your friends."
"Yeah, what Joe said! You've been acting really worrying lately, what happened?"
"..Huh? Uh- You guys, I appreciate it, but it's really nothing—"
......................................
Silence. She didn't know what else to say. It hadn't bothered her enough to really think about it, but why is she so calm in this situation? Isn't this, like, definitely not normal? Why was she feeling this connection, why was it towards Kugie, a girl she randomly bumped into and talked to once, and why had her happiness kept fading the longer she thought about it? Of course, she could understand why Joe and Ryoko were worried about her, but she stood there speechless nonetheless and waited for break to hopefully be over soon. Her friends were talking about something, but she obviously wasn't listening to them. She was spacing out again.

School is over, and Sara is on her way to the school gate. Joe, Ryoko and her had been planning to hang out like this for about a week since their schedules mostly didn't add up. She feels a bit anxious, since her behavior lately has been strange and it might ruin the day for all of them. Knowing she can't escape this anyway, she keeps walking, and then she stops.

"..Wh-"

Happily talking to Joe and Ryoko, a girl stood there. It was her. It had to have been her. Sara stood there, motionless. Why is she suddenly so frozen in time? It's just the new girl talking to her friends. Kizuchi. Kugie Kizuchi. She quickly came back to her senses. This wasn't the time. Ruining this day could affect her friendship with the two of them, and she obviously didn't want that. Well, it wouldn't, but Sara was too insecure and overwhelmed at the time to realize that. She was still confused about just who Kugie was, and why she had been like this ever since she met her, but she threw all those thoughts in the back of her mind and approached the three of them with an unsure smile.

"Hey, J-" Ryoko interrupted her sentence.
"Sara! There you are, took you long enough."
"Sorry.. I just-"

Still not sure of what to say, do, or think, she looks at Kugie. And to her surprise, she was looking at her too. Though Sara was staring at her with a pityful expression, basically saying something that she wouldn't be able to put into words, the somewhat new girl smiled at her. It looked.. genuine. Maybe even the prettiest smile anyone could ever have. Feeling a bit relieved, Sara forces herself back into the reality that was happening right in front of her again.

Her feelings towards Kugie hadn't changed. But if she could feel even the slightest bit of relief, that was fine with her. She knew she had to slowly accept this and do something about it when she had the time.
Joe spoke up, seemingly trying to get the conversation going as it had been a bit quiet.

"Oh yeah, I forgot to introduce you. Here, Sara. This is Kizuchi- Kugie Kizuchi."
"Tazuna, it's fine. We've met before, right Chidouin? You're the pretty girl who I bumped into a few days ago."
"Uh- Wait. Pretty..?" Sara was surprised. She was probably blushing a bit too, but if only because she felt embarrassed.
"Yeah! Thanks for helping me back there."
"Ah.. Uhm, it was really nothing much, but you're welcome anyways. I didn't think we'd meet here again."
"Right? I was sick the past few days, so I couldn't come to school. But I'm better now, don't worry."

..Oh. So that's what it was. And Sara had been wondering why the two never saw each other as if Kugie suddenly went missing or moved schools. Idiot.

"You two know each other? Well, I guess that makes things easier. Sara, if it's okay with you, we were thinking that Kizuchi could maybe come with us today. The more the merrier, right?" Ryoko seemed nervous, the expression on her face said "Please say yes.. This is already awkward enough as it is, Sara!"

"Sure, I don't mind."

Her thoughts were still at the back of her head. She couldn't think of anything. She was just happy that things could finally be normal again. Huh, normal? Can you really call this normal? You're a weird one, Sara.

In the end, the four of them spent the rest of the day together. Kugie wanted to tell Sara something, but never had the chance to, or just didn't find the right moment. It went unnoticed by the other three, so she assumed it was fine.
