HOW STRANGE IT IS. We have these deep terrible lingering fears about ourselves and the people we love. Yet we walk around, talk to people, eat and drink. We manage to function. The feelings are deep and real. Shouldn't they paralyze us? How is it that we can survive them? At least for a little while. We drive a car, we teach a class. How is it no one sees how deeply afraid we were today? Last night? This morning? Is it something we all hide from one another by mutual consent? Or do we share the same secret without knowing it?

Enola began to consider the latter when Caroline arrived at the Salvatore Boarding House in tears after having broken off the engagement to Stefan. She remembered that feeling all too well. The feeling of loss. The feeling of dread. The feeling of pain. Especially when it comes to a lover. She was lucky enough to have married him. Though her happiness hadn't even lasted a year before it was shot to hell. She was cured to spend six months out in the bayou as a werewolf. It took her some time to be able to forgive him for putting her in that position. And when she did, he learned how to make sacrifices. So, in a way, Enola and Caroline shared the same secret. The secret of love and loss. It always ends the same, doesn't it?

Enola and Caroline awoke to the ringing of a cell phone. Both women were tangled in the sheets after having fallen asleep in the same bed. It had been a while since they had a sleepover. Though this could hardly count seeing as the night was mostly spent in tears about the lives they could have had. Neither of them expected to end up here and yet there was absolutely nothing they could do about it. Love would soon become a distant memory that was just out of reach. Fortunately that cell phone was just in reach. So with a single annoyed huff, a hand shot out from under the covers and grasped the device before putting it on speaker.

"Good morning," Caroline grumbled.

"That was thoroughly unconvincing," Bonnie noted through the phone. "What are you up to?"

"Oh, you know," Caroline drawled, rolling onto her back. "Just motivating."

"Translation—you are still in bed, moping about Stefan." Bonnie sighed.

"You would be correct," Enola muttered, not bothering to lift her head from the pillow it was buried in. She paused before slowly looking up with furrowed brows. "Why are you breathing so heavy?"

"I am jogging," Bonnie informed. "I needed to get out and clear my head."

"What is on your mind?" Enola wondered, turning onto her side.
