Ship(s): Drake (Drew x Jake)

Genre: Angst

TWs: Mentions of suicide

You know, I was always the villain in your eyes. Even when I saved you from the bullies all those years ago, you saw me as one of them. "Keep your friends close, and your enemies closer"- that should've been your motto. You certainly did keep me close. Close enough so that I gained a crush on you, close enough so that I fell in love with you. And now, as I write my last words, it will be for you. So you can continue your fantasies, so you may paint me as the villain and you as the hero. After all, it isn't like I'll be around to care. 'Heroes always get the happy ending, while villains wither away in misery'- apparently, the storybooks were right. All I hope, with all my might, is that you're happy with this ending.

And if not?

Well, I guess it's just too late.

I love you, Jake, goodbye.

- Drew

Jake clutched the suicide note in his hand, tears streaming down his face. He loved me? He loved me and I made him hurt like this? Every second he had acted cruel towards Drew replayed in his mind, up until the time when the band club had convinced him to ditch Drew and the others. But, oh, how he regretted that. Drew had fallen for him, and Jake had pushed him away. At the end of the day, Jake was certainly no hero. He hugged his knees and sobbed into them. "Why couldn't it have been me?" Drew had killed himself- killed himself because of his actions. 'I hope you're happy with this ending.'

How? How did Drew expect him to be happy, of all emotions, when he'd found out his best friend had taken his own life.

He heard peoples' voices outside his house, and then footsteps at his door. Looking up to see who it was, he saw a certain teal-haired girl and her step-brother.

"Go away." He said simply, still clutching the note as if his life depended on it.

Zander looked like he wanted to do just that, but Hailey shook her head and came closer to Jake. "So... how are you coping?" She asked, clearly trying to tread gently.

"How am I coping?" He mimicked. "My first friend- my best friend, just fucking killed himself, do you think I'm okay?!" Typically, he would've apologized for such an outburst, but right now he couldn't even bring himself to care about anything else but Drew.

"Jake, I know it's hard, but you have to admit... Drew wasn't the best person. Maybe this is for the better?"

Jake got up and shoved her away. "He loved me, Hailey." He said, manically waving the note in her face. "Anyone who can love deserves life. I should've stayed with him- then this never would've happened!"

"Jake, it isn't your fault."

"Can't you see?! It is my fault. He did this because of me, so that I would be happy."

The room went silent at this, no one knowing how to respond.

"I just need some time alone." Jake broke the silence with his words as the step-siblings glanced at one another, wondering what to do.

"Alright, but Jake- it isn't the end of the world, okay? There are still things left to live for."

As the two of them left his room, he muttered under his breath. "It might not be the end of the world for you, but he was my world."
