Y/n and Courtney were walking out of the school." So, he's picking us up? " Y/n nodded with a frown. Duncan slung his arms around Y/n's and Courtney's shoulders. " Who's coming?" Y/n frowned and mumbled. " My brother. " Duncan glared and said. '' The mean one? " Courtney nodded. " I haven't met him personally, but he sounds like a butthead. "
Just as Y/n was about to speak she saw him. He was tall with dark brown hair. His eyes were blue and he looked like he didn't want to be there. " Brat. Brat. " He called out not even bothering to look up from his phone.
Duncan grabbed Y/n's hand and started to run off. " Duncan! " Courtney called out angrily. She tried to follow them but Duncan went into the woods. Courtney sighed and walked over to the brother. " S-She left already. " The brother's eyes widen slightly and sighed. " She left her necklace at home. You're her friend, right? " Courtney nodded and said. " I'm walking by myself. " She then left the older boy alone. Courtney felt guilty for lying but he doesn't seem good to her. The brother ran his hand through his hair and shook his head. " Really?! How much of an idiot can she be?! " He mumbled angrily.
Duncan dodged trees left and right. Y/n was struggling to keep up. " D-Duncan, please wait up..." Sure, she was fast but she was weighed down by her backpack and she knew she had to go back. Duncan stopped and looked at her. " Why? " Y/n looked down and said. " I-I should really get going...He doesn't like waiting. " Duncan pulled her closer and said. " No! He's not okay. "
Y/n was about to protest when he let her hand go. " We can leave our backpacks here. " He dropped his by the trunk of the tree. Y/n hesitated but dropped her backpack beside his. Duncan smirked and grabbed her hand again.
Duncan looked at Y/n and said. " Be careful. " Y/n nodded and they began to walk through the woods. Y/n kept looking back at where she should be with worry. Duncan rolled his eyes and grabbed her hand. A light blush started to coat his cheeks but he cleared his throat. Which got Y/n's attention and he started to walk downhill. " Watch your step, and stay close. '' Y/n looked at the ground and noticed vines, rocks, and sticks covering the ground. " Duncan...this doesn't seem safe, we should really turn back."
Duncan turned around and basically lifted her up and set her on an even piece of ground. " See, it's safe enough for you to get set on. Besides, I do this all of the time. " Y/n looked at Duncan who was waiting for her to follow him down as he walk down more slightly. Y/n took one last look at the forest behind them and took a step down. " There you go, Mouse! " Y/n started to walk carefully down the hill, making sure to step where Duncan stepped. After all, who knows what might live in this forest? As soon as they reached level ground, Duncan smiled. " You did it, see it wasn't that hard. Now, let's see if you stopped being a scardey cat. "
Y/n looked down and pouted." I'm not that much of a coward..." Duncan rolled his eyes and started to walk towards the road. " I live around here, I know my way around. You might not so follow me. " Y/n walked fast to catch up to him and grabbed his hand. Duncan looked back at her and noticed her slowly looking around. She was afraid. Duncan couldn't blame her, the sun was about to set and they were still in the forest. " We are almost at the park..." That was the first time that he revealed where they were headed. Y/n nodded and walked closer to Duncan. They exited the forest and walked on the sidewalk. The street lights weren't on yet, so it wasn't bedtime for most people.
Duncan looked at Y/n who looked was looking at him confused. " What is it, Mouse? " Y/n then asked him the question he hoped she wouldn't. " Why did you bring me here? Why did you help me away from my brother?" Duncan rolled his eyes and tugged her to walk closer to him. " He's a jerk. If I could beat him I would but I don't want to do that." Not in front of you. That's the part he left out. " You don't have to protect me...I'm okay with it. " Duncan couldn't understand why she was okay with it. No one should be okay with being treated that way. " Want to swing? " He pointed at the swings at the park.
The park was empty, it basically always was. Y/n smiled and walked ahead of Duncan. " Yeah! Come on." Duncan walked with her, ignoring the butterflies he was getting in his stomach. She's just his friend. Y/n let go of Duncan's hand and sat on the swing. Duncan was quick to join her and they started to swing beside each other. They were both not speaking, just swinging in comfortable silence, just enjoying each other's presence.
The sun was setting and Duncan glanced at Y/n. She was smiling as her hair flew behind her and kicking her feet to go higher. The sun's dying rays were reflecting in her eyes and her smile was as bright as the rays. Duncan blushed as he looked at his friend. He smiled and swung beside her. He liked being her friend. He liked that he helped her. Duncan looked at the entrance and saw Y/n's brother looking at her with a mad expression. " Brat! You had fun. It's time to go home. " Y/n's smile instantly disappeared and Duncan was furious. He jumped off of the swing, in mid-air, and walked over to her brother. Y/n's eyes widen and she tried to slow down.
Ducan stopped in front of the uninterested teen. " Go away. I'll take her home. " The brother ignored him and Duncan glared. " Go away jerkface. " The teen looked at him and said. " You know the way to the house? " Duncan then said. " I'll figure it out. " The teen turned around and walked away. He didn't care enough to stay. Duncan looked at Y/n who was coming to a stop and walked over to her. " He said I can take you home. You live near, Miss. Perfect. Right? " Y/n nodded and looked at her brother's retreating figure. " How did you get him to go away?" Duncan shrugged and grabbed her hand. " Let's play for five more minutes then we can leave." Y/n nodded and Duncan dragged her to the climbing wall.
Duncan started to climb up the wall and looked at Y/n. Y/n started to climb too but more slowly and carefully. Duncan made it to the top where the slide is. He held a hand out to Y/n who grabbed it and he pulled her the rest of the way up. Duncan smiled, " Look up. " Y/n looked up and saw the sky full of stars. " Wow, it's so pretty. " Duncan nodded and looked at the reflection in her eyes. " Indeed, the most beautiful. " Y/n smiled and looked at Duncan. " Thank you." Duncan shrugged and went down the slide. " We should leave now. Come on." Y/n slide down the slide and walked beside him. Duncan lived around five houses away from Courtney he just doesn't leave his house as early as she does. " I'm neighbors with Courtney. " Duncan nodded and said. " I live five houses down from her house. " Y/n then looked confused. " So why don't you walk with us?"
Duncan paused, he could use this as an opportunity to walk with her. " I didn't know you lived there. I am not friends with Ms. Perfect so I didn't walk with her. " Y/n smiled and said. " You're friends with me, so you can join us. " Duncan nodded and smiled. " I'll think about it. Here's your stop, Mouse. " Y/n smiled and hugged Duncan. " Bye, good night sweet dreams. " Duncan smiled and hugged her back. " Good Night sweet dreams, Mouse. " Y/n let go of him and walked inside her house. Duncan went to his house where he was greeted by his dog.
