Chapter 5: well i love her she loves me

I got ready for tonight's game I put my hair in a pomp and put on a bandanna that match with my outfit. A pair of 501 Levi's and a plain t- shirt to top it off my leather jacket. I heard somebody knock on the screen door and I grabbed my glove and ran towards the door. "Ma I'll be back soon." I ran out with Benny and we all went out to the sandlot. "Okay hit it!" I yelled from my position "yeah, yeah come on, Benny." Yeah yeah said and hit his glove DeNuñez got ready to pitch and Benny also. He threw the ball and Benny made contact and it went flying to center field. We where all in awe because of the fireworks and we didn't pay attention and Benny ran around the bases.

The next morning we where out there playing again I still wasn't talking to ham he still hadn't apologize yet "come on hurry up!" Ham yelled at me when I grabbed the ball and threw it at him really hard "back off!" He yelled "yeah yeah." Yeah yeah catches it and Benny ran towards home again "throw it in! Throw it in!" "Get him! Get him!" Benny was running back and forward until he got to home base. That's when I notice a group of guys coming to our field riding bikes "oh no." Said squints. I ran towards Benny to see what's up ham was first to walk to wards them and threw his glove in we all followed and did the same. Benny got a bat and I took out my blade and got ready I was walking next to Benny and behind ham.

They where wearing matching uniforms and I rolled my eyes at them it was quite for a while we where all just staring. "It's easy when you play with rejects a fat kid and a girl, Rodriguez." I flicked open my blade and he saw it "ohh scary." He taunted me I clenched my teeth. "Shut your mouth, Phillips!" Benny said defending me "What'd you say, crap face?" Ham spoke up "You shouldn't be allowed to touch a baseball. Except for Rodriguez, you're all an insult to the game." Phillips told Ham "Come on! We'll take you on, right here! Right now! Come on!" We all back him up "Yeah!" "We play on a real diamond, Porter. You ain't good enough to lick the dirt off our cleats." That little stuck up thinking he was better than us "Watch it, jerk" Ham warned him "Shut up, idiot!" And the insults began
"Moron!" Ham said
"Scab eater!" Phillips said
"Butt sniffer!"
"Pus licker!"
"Fart smeller!" Bertream sniffed in "Ahh."
"You eat dog crap for breakfast, geek!"
"You mix your Wheaties with your mama's toe jam!"
"Yeah!" I yelled pointing my blade at Philippe
"You bob for apples in the toilet! And you like it!"
You play ball like a girl." Everyone was quite especially me I play baseball and I'm a girl I'm pretty sure I'm better than him.
"What did you say?" Phillips looked at him shocked "You heard me."
"Tomorrow. Noon, at our field. Be there, buffalo-butt breath."
"Count on it, pee-drinking crap-face" ham said and the guys started to ride away.

I grabbed Ham from his shirt as he walked by me "so girls can't play baseball right?" I still had my blade out and he stared at it "oh my god don't cut me I'm sorry I didn't mean to it was just in the moment." I rolled my eyes at him "never say that again you understand I play better than his stupid ass." I let go off him and put my blade away. "Okay I'm sorry and I won't" Benny grabbed me from my waits and pulled me towards him "don't be mad he was just trying to get them mad." He kissed me and all the guys whistled behind us. I pulled away blushing and smiling "finally they are official!" Smalls said and I messed up his hair.

It was night and Benny and I walked hand in hand towards my house "I love this we have a thing in common our love for baseball." I kissed him goodbye and I ran inside of my house I went straight to my room and fell on my bed blushing. After a while I fell asleep thinking about us and what will happen in the future.
