Joey's dad returns (requested)

"What is it?" You asked Jennie as she sat up and reached for the remote to pause the movie you were watching together.

She sat still and quietly for a moment before answering.

"I think someone is at the door. I'll go get it." She said with a sigh.

"No, baby, don't worry about it. Joey is sleeping on you anyway. I'll go get it." You said before giving her a quick kiss. "I'm sure it's no one. I'll be right back."

"Okay." She answered and sent you a small smile before you exited the room.

As you made your way downstairs, the knocking came again and this time it was harder and more insistent as if whoever was on the other side of the door was impatient and angry.

"Just a second!" You yelled out as you rolled your eyes.

You reached the door a few seconds later and turned the knob before coming face to face with someone that you never imagined you'd see again.

"Hey, Y/N."

"Kyle." You said before folding your arms over your chest. "What are you doing here?"

"I'm here to see my son."

"It's ten o'clock. He's sleeping."

"Oh, that's unfortunate." He sighed before scratching his head. "I'll stop by tomorrow and see him then."

"Why? It's been several years since you walked out that door. I was heavily pregnant when you walked out on us, remember? You said you had a change of heart and didn't want to be a dad."

"Well, I had another change of heart." He said as he folded his arms over his chest. "I want to be part of my son's life."

"For what reason?"

"A child needs his father in his life."

"Really? He's made it by just fine until now without one." You argued as you continued to glare at your ex.

"Honey? Who's at the door?" Jennie called out as she approached you.

And a second later, just as Jennie appeared by your side, so did Joey.

"Who is this?" Jennie frowned as she stared between you and your ex.

"Take Joey back upstairs." You said as Jennie picked Joey up.

She didn't ask any questions.

She could see by the look in your eyes that something wasn't right.

So she turned around and prepared to hurry up the stairs with Joey.

But before she could take a step, your ex spoke up.

"Joey, buddy!"

Jennie turned back around, now facing you and your ex, along with Joey.

"There's my boy! How are you?"

Your ex tried to step inside and take a few steps closer to your son, but you stopped him.

"You're not welcome in this house."

"That's my son and I want to see him!" He yelled at you, practically screaming in your face.

And in fear, Joey clutched Jennie tightly as a whimper left his lips.

"Buddy, it's daddy."

Joey shook his head.

"I don't have a daddy."

"What did you tell him?" Your ex asked, seething.

"Nothing. But he's only used to having me and Jennie around. He doesn't know you."

Your ex wasn't giving up so easily, despite your son protesting meeting him.

"Buddy, come to daddy."

"No! I only have my moms."

"Fine." Your ex said as he stood back up. "Let's see what the court thinks. I'll fight for full custody of him. I bet I can win him too."

"I'm not scared. Take me to court, we'll see what happens. I'm sure they'll side with a father who hasn't made any effort to see his son for several years to just show up out of the blue."

He clenched his jaw in anger.

"And he's not a prize. You won't 'win' him."

"We'll see." He spoke.

"Get off my property." You ordered and he scoffed before turning around and walking away.

You breathed out a sigh of relief as you closed the door.

As soon as you did so, Jennie and Joey were by your side.

"Are you okay, baby?"

"I'm alright." You said with a small smile.

"That was Joey's dad? He's taking you to court?"

"Yeah, looks that way." You sighed.

"He doesn't stand a chance," Jennie said before squeezing your shoulder reassuringly. "Right, Joey? We love your mom too much to go anywhere else."

"Yeah!" He happily said as you picked him up.

He buried his face in your neck and you held him tight as Jennie pulled you into her comforting embrace.

"Everything's going to be okay." She promised.

"I know."
