There was blood on her pale hands. The bruises on her body ached but the quiet words of the dead whispered for her to stay silent. She was a good person who did horrible things.

She lifted her black hood over her head, leaving behind the tragedy of another village. The other women gathered beside her as they disappeared into the shadows to go back home.

Her coven had sent them out for goods, but they had to take lives to get to them. Robbing was always easier for Yvonne. Taking from the villagers without harming them had been the best option, but that was when she first became a witch, and that was before the war.

~FLASHBACK~

She was only 9. Her mother had been brushing her hair gently and humming a lullaby when the walls of their small home caved in suddenly. Yvonne's mother had thought they were safe. Three dark shadowy figures emerged through the opening of the busted wall. Her mother, Delilah, was crying and holding Yvonne, even though her lungs were burning as she breathed in the dust.

She backed up as far as she could, still holding her young daughter close.

"Come on, Delilah. Hand her over. You know she will be happier with us." The old woman said calmly as she opened her arms to the young Yvonne.

"You know I can't do that, Gale." Delilah replied sharply. Yvonne buried her face in her mother's chest, covering her ears, trying to calm herself.

"Well that really is a pity, isn't it sister?" Another, younger, woman said to the old cloaked figure called Gale.

"It truly is. It's such a shame we won't be seeing you again." said Gale. She gestured to the other two women to advance towards Delilah. They pried her arms off of Yvonne as Gale came to pick up the child. Yvonne was crying. She was confused as to why these people were taking her from her mother. Delilah was screaming as loud as she could for help but when the dust disappeared, she saw that the rest of the town had been punished for her mistakes. Her arms were being held back by the two cloaked women.

"Gale! Don't do this! She has a chance at a normal life. Why are you taking her into a world of danger and heartache?" Gale stopped walking and turned, facing the teary Delilah.

"Because she is the chosen one." She said and made a gesture to the women holding down Delilah. Gale turned around with Yvonne in her arms. Yvonne heard the deafening screams and cries of her beautiful mother as they took a few steps forward, but then the loud sounds of despair stopped and Yvonne watched her house collapse on top of her mother's body.

"Don't worry, child. I am your mother now." whispered Gale as she grinned maliciously and handed Delilahs' necklace to Yvonne.
