Chapter 4
I followed her out.
Walking down hallways, left, right, right, straight, and it goes on, I wish I could memorize it but it's too complicated without a map to guide my way. All the walls were the same, brick, red brick, and gray cement at my feet. This lady, why does she keep going, don't she stop to think where she's going. At the moment I almost got completely loft in daydreams because I gave up memorizing the route, she stopped in front of a door just like the last one, wooden with a standard door handle. Miss. Ziara turns around and looks me straight in the eye, I had to look away. I hate looking into people's eyes. “Boy, is there anything you need before walking into this room?”
What was that supposed to mean? I tilt my head in confusion.
“You’re going to see some old faces, I want to know that you won't pass out or anything before walking in here. Now, do you need anything?” This made me nervous, who is it going to be? Why am I meeting them? Why would I…
“Hey kid, are you okay?” Miss. Ziara asks.
I nodded in response. “I’m sorry, I was just thinking.” At that statement, she looked at me weirdly but shook it off.
“Okay, kid, I want you to be calm, It’s okay if you need a break, just ask.” Is she trying to worry me to death, I'm so confused. Regardless of my thoughts I simply nodded. At my nod, she opened the door and pushed me in, and walked in behind me.
It took me a second to register everything, the small room seemed to be a lounge of sorts, counters were lining the back walls, copying a fridge and a microwave. There was a glass coffee table in the middle with two black couches on either side, what was on the left couch was what she was talking about. Two people were sitting on the couch, A fully grown man and a child, I’ve seen them before. The man had silvery blue hair that was shaved in an undercut, and the non-shaved part was pushed forward into a point. He dressed in a casual way, wearing a simple blue T-shirt with green camo shorts, and white tennis shoes. One notable thing was his black fingerless leather gloves. He had very pointed ears, and his skin had a yellow tint but was still very pale. His eyes were dark grey and could be mistaken for black, he also had a very lazy look about him, just like he really didn’t take an interest in anything. The most noticeable was the scar on his left cheek, it starts at his and stretches to almost his eye. From his looks, it seemed he was something called an elf.
The boy, on the other hand, looked as if he were in his preteen years, he was built very small, it was as if he was malnourished before but had been building up fat after that. This child had bright red hair that was semi neat, it was short as well, this didn't help his skin that was a tiny bit lighter than mine. He also had pointed ears, a bit shorter than mine but still long, on the right ear, I noticed he also had golden rings that had a word on them that I cant understand. He had bright golden eyes, that were really large and wondrous. He was also casual but in a more pristine way, he wore a red long-sleeved T-shirt with black jeans and shoes.
Like I said I knew them both, but they’re supposed to be dead, how are they alive? I get her words now, I’m starting to panic, at this I start to calm myself down and think. I was there for the kid’s death, granted I didn't exactly see him die, but how could he live without me noticing? How could…
“Theo… you’re grown…” the man said breaking thoughts. I studied his face, he hid nothing, his pain, sadness, and anger were showing, all I saw was raw emotion on his face. I was in disbelief, I was told he was dead.
“What's going on? How is this possible?” I ask, not believing the situation. “I was there when the kid died. Explain this shit to me.” I raised my voice a tiny bit, but after I said this I realized my mistake. “I mean, I’m sorry, I said that impulsively, but may you please explain the situation to me.”
“Hey, It's okay to be angry, or sad, or any emotion for that matter. Just come sit down while we explain everything, sound good?” The man said in a kind voice, I nod still wary of them, and so I sat on the couch opposite of them while the woman stood.
“Theo do you remember me or him?” he said pointing to the boy who hadn't said a word, his face only shows surprise. I nod.
“Okay, so, how do I do this? Um, so you remember us both, well that makes this easier. Well, Theo, we thought you had died, How are you here?” he asked, looking nervous.
“Wait yall thought I was dead, I thought yall were dead!” I exclaimed with much surprise.
“Ah, so we both thought each other were dead, that’s convenient, isn’t it? But anyway, as you see we’re both alive and well, and so are you… kind of. So I assume you thought Alexio died in the fire. Am I right?” I stiffened, I don't like remembering that ever but I still gave a slight ‘mhm’ at that.
“Though I am curious, why would you think I was dead?”
“Well, Mitera said that you had died with my peteras when I was three,” I stated, but I was confused when his face went from shock to sadness.
“Ah, so you remember her as well,” he gave a slight break as if to comprehend the sentence. The child took this moment to speak, “Bampas, I'm also confused, how is this possible?” he asked, from his voice I had pinpointed him as eleven.
“Well, I’m guessing that Your mother had told Theo that I was dead, so he never searched for me, as for you, he thought you had died in the fire that the police presumed he died in.” he turns from the child to me and says, “We had thought you had died in that fire, however, I guess the only one was your mother.” I could tell from his face that he felt pure sadness, this made me sad, I wish I was braver so I could cheer him up. A thought hit me. My adelfos is alive, and with him is my new caretaker, I actually have family…
