You had been in the infirmary for almost two weeks now and you were starting to go a bit stir crazy. Seeing as there was nothing you could do due to a deep cut on your leg and a fractured ankle, as well as a bruised wrist and cuts on your face, you were stuck in that bed until you were at least able to walk again. Which was going to be a while before anyone would let you.

Going on runs was one of your favorite tasks. You were able to get out, do a bit of exploring. Daryl was always the one you went with. Being inseparable pretty much since the beginning. Everyone knew you were a thing, but no one made a big deal out of it, which was what you both preferred. You just were and that's all that mattered. But the one time you went without him an accident happened, which caused a deep cut in your leg, a badly sprained ankle, bruised wrist and cuts and bruises on your face. Fortunately Tara was there to help you back to Hilltop.

Daryl was furious when he found out what happened. He was also upset with himself that he wasn't there, probably telling himself that it could have been avoided if he were. You tried many times to tell him that it couldn't have been avoided because everything happened to quickly. And you wanted him to believe you, but you knew him.

Deep down he still felt guilty. And it just prompted him to be at your side. He was always close by, always in view of where you were, half the time even in ear shot in case you called out him for whatever reason. He always made sure you had enough food and water. Made sure you weren't in any pain. He kept you company, even if you didn't talk. You didn't always need to talk, his company was always lovely.

He stayed nights with you, objected when you told him to go sleep in his bed, that the chairs were far too uncomfortable to sleep in. Some nights he didn't even sleep at all. He just watched you, wanting to make sure you didn't wake up needed him and he wasn't there. Again. He wasn't going to make that same mistake.
