“Five more minutes!!” said Rachel.
“You wake up right now or you ain’t getting breakfast!” Said Sofia angrily.
“Fine. Atleast give me two more minutes.” Said Rachel annoyingly.
“I’ll see you on the table.” Said Sofia as she left Rachel’s room.
Rachel stood up and jumped out of the and stomped her way to the washroom. The morning was bright and the sun rays made her room light up to freshness as she swung open her curtains. She looked at her annoyed face in the mirror as she slowly moved her hand to brush her teeth. She unconsciously stared at her sleepy eyes in the mirror, until suddenly she heard a melodious tone. It sounded as if someone was playing different chores of screeching sound. Rachel was confused, she searched for this anonymous screeching sounds source, to her surprise, it came from the kitchen.
Rachel washed her face and came running to check what on earth was mom upto this time. As soon as she was about to enter the kitchen, she felt sick and was about to throw up. She came in the kitchen and had her eyes wide open and all her sleep was gone, it was as if she had just taken a bath and was fresh enough to go on a hike. Her breath kept getting heavier the more she looked at the nightmare in front of her.
She saw her mother, close to the most unsightly man she could ever imagine, holding hand in hand, dancing with the flow of the screeching sound, she saw her mom smiling as she moved along with the screeching tone coming from the music box outside the kitchen.
The man gave Rachel a brief look. Her mom turned around and said. “Oh, now that’s a good girl. Here come have your breakfast.”Rachel couldn’t believe what she saw, her head started to ache, it felt like everything was spinning around her, she had the biggest question in her mind, who is this man?, it’s for sure that he ain’t her father, so then who is he? And why is mom so casual around him? What exactly is going on?
Rachel looked at the man as he hovered himself up and came close to her. She witnessed his smile, the smile that had once stole her freedom to breathe, the terror she felt kept increasing more and more everytime she saw it.
Suddenly the lights started flickering and all Rachel could see was a bright light slowly covering everything around her and making her feel as if she was in a void of a white space, the brightness of the surrounding knocked her unconscious. By this time, Rachel prayed she never woke up.
Rachel woke up with a shade of sunglasses on her head and her shoulders covered in her drool, her hair still flowing out of the window, the sun still standing on the horizon, she turned her head and saw her mom moving her head and humming along with the song playing on the car radio. She realised she just took the lane for the highway on the hills where she had met the murderer man.
Rachel leaned over and hugged her mom as tight as she could and started sobbing. She thanked God so much for this being just a horrifying but small nightmare of her entire life.
“Honey, what happened? You realise I’m driving right? You shouldn’t jump on someone when they are driving, accidents are prone to these events. What happened?, A nightmare?” asked Sofia.
“Yes!!” replied Rachel as she wiped her tears from her face.
“Oh come on now, it’s okay, it’s just a nightmare. I know my Rachel is strong enough enough to face any nightmares out there.” Said Sofia politely to lift her spirits.
“It was horrifying!!” said Rachel with a steep voice.
“My sweetheart!, All nightmares are horrifying, you never enjoy it, that’s why you never like it.” Said Sofia. “now wouldn’t it be lovely to enjoy a nightmare?” said Rachel as she tried to make lame jokes to lift up Rachel’s mind from all this.
