"Tony left already?" My younger brother, Chris looks at me with a frown. I walk over to the couch where he's sitting and sit down with him, watching Spongebob. He and I laugh when Spongebob and Patrick are arguing. Chris looks up at me and says in a rough voice, "I'm Dirty Dan!"
I look at him and smile. I clear my throat and with the deepest voice possible, I say, "No, I'm Dirty Dan!"
He laughs at my failed attempt of a manly voice, and I wave my hand in dismissal. Hey! I tried.
"Lee Marie Jackson you march straight up here this instant, young lady!" And that, my friends, is my "stepmom" Brittany. Brittany is freaking twenty-one. Twenty-one, yet she expects me, a seventeen year old girl, to treat her like she's at least thirty-five. "I'll be back," I said, messing up Chris's dirty blonde hair.
"Lee Jackson, march!" Could say please, I thought to myself. I effortlessly walked upstairs just to find Brittany on the phone, standing in my bedroom doorway. I looked at her. Glared at her.
"Is that my Green Day shirt?!" She smiled at looked down at it. "Peter said you never wore this thing, so I figured-"
"Figured what?!"
"Well, can I have it? I mean, it's true. You never wear it."
I glared at her so hard, my vision was getting blurry. "That shirt was framed." She scrunched up her nose, and I was so mad. I turned away. Forget it, Lee. You still have your 21st Century Breakdown shirt.
I retreated back downstairs. No point in fighting a lost battle. "No I'm Dirty Dan," said a familiar booming voice. "Dad!" I ran downstairs at the speed of light, and embraced my father.
"Hey Lee," He says, hugging me. "Don't leave us here with her ever again!" I give him a pleading look. In return, he gives me a tired one. "Lee Jackson, please, not now." He released me from our hug.
"Now what would your mother say?" I rolled my eyes in responce. "What would your mother say, Lee Jackson?" I closed my eyes and clenched my fists.
"You just had to divorce. You just had to be with her." Chris appears at the doorway. "Lee?" I roll my eyes once more at dad and walk over to Chris. "Let's go, honey. We're going to the park."
"Lee, well," he starts, "Can I bring Rex?" Rex is Chris's pet turtle. I look at him and frown, "Rex'll be okay, Chris." He slumps his shoulders and sighs. "Okay," he says.
Together, hand in hand, we walk to the park across the street. Pretty ideal, really. I mean, a park... across the street. Anyways, don't mind my thoughts. I sit Chris on a swing and watch him swing, only, he doesn't look happy.
"I wanted to bring Rex," he sighs. As I kneel down next to him, I feel a sudden drop in temprature.
"Hey," I say, "it's getting kinda chilly." He nods in agreement. Together, we get up and he holds my hand. "Don't you wish Tony was here?"
His question startled me. "Huh? Oh, I don't mind." And then, my friends, Chris chuckles and shook his head. "What's so funny?" I ask. He shakes his head. "It's guys' night."
"Oh Lee," Chris said, "You know you wanna be with Tony and his friends." I ruffled up his hair. "Oh Chris." He sticks his tongue and stops in place.
The wind picked up slightly, but enough for me to shiver, and Chris did as well.
"Come one, Dirty Dan," I say.
