Title: Hoops
Autumn has finally started, with its’ falling leaves occupying random spots of the basketball court. You were here today because of a bet with Hikaru. Your step brother had promised you a luxury brand bag of your choice from his trip to Italy, provided you managed to beat him in a game of basketball.
After staying with the Asahina’s for quite some time, you grew to know of their quirky habits and you definitely knew that basketball wasn’t Hikaru’s forte. In fact, it was Subaru’s. You remembered trying to convince the same age brother to coach you but to no avail as he usually scatters out of the way whenever you two made eye contact.
You were beginning to think that he hated being related to you.
“If I lose to Hikaru,” You whispered to yourself. “I will never be able to forgive myself. That guy sucks at basketball.”
Giving yourself a determined nod, you proceeded to pick the ball up as you readied yourself into a stance.
Here we go… You thought, but was soon disappointed when the ball flew off the hoop instead.
“I give up!” You screamed at the innocent hoop. “I don’t need the bag anyway.”
“Giving up so soon?” A voice startled you and you turned to see the avoiding brother walking towards you.
“Subaru?” You subtly pinched yourself. “What are you doing here?”
You saw how he laughed as he picked up the fallen ball that you’ve already gave up on.
“Were you pinching yourself?” He asked shyly. “I know me being here may seem like a surprise…”
“Big surprise.” You answered a little too honestly.
Subaru grinned as he threw the ball over to you.
“Were you giving up?”
You scrunched up your nose, thinking of an appropriate answer but found that you have none. There was no way that you were going to admit that.
“I thought… I could teach you.” Subaru extended his right hand for a shake. “But you’d have to do something for me.”
“What do I have to do?”
“Come to my game.” This time, he was scratching his head sheepishly. “But if you don’t want to, that’s okay.”
“That’s all?” You asked incredulously. “Really?”
He gave a small nod, wondering why you were finding it strange that his request had been so simple.
“Done and deal.” You shook his hand a little too forcefully. “You know I would have come to your game anyway, right? I am your sister you know.”
“Step sister.” He cut you off and you saw how uncomfortable he looked. “But…”
“But?”
“(Y/N), I don’t want you to come as my sister.” Subaru looked earnestly into your eyes. “I want you to come as just you, a girl.”
“A girl…?” You didn’t get what he meant.
“Yeah. Like how a girl attends her boyfriend’s game. Something like that.”
Oh. Now you did understand.
“(Y/N)?” You saw how Subaru was biting his lips, probably regretting his decision to ask you to come to his game.
“I’ll go.” The answer came a lot faster than you’d imagined it to be. Maybe somewhere deep down, you had already knew that Subaru hadn’t once thought of you as his sister. And maybe you didn’t mind.
“Really?” His eyes lit up at your answer. “I mean…”
“Of course.” You grinned before pointing to the ball that you were holding. “But you have to help me first.”
“R-Right away!”
Subaru then swiftly stood behind you, his arms guiding your hands as the ball went into the hoop effortlessly. You shuddered at the close contact and tried your hardest to concentrate on the tips that he was giving instead of the bodily heat that he was emitting.
“(Y/N)? Do you understand now?” Your heart quickened seeing how close his face was next to yours. “You have to get the pose and distance right if you want to secure straight shots.”
“Y-Yeah.”
“Why are you turning red?” Subaru grew concerned. “Are you feeling tired already?”
“N-No!” You denied it a little too quickly. “I… I was blushing.”
It finally dawned upon the young man that he was standing far too close to you. However, not once did he make an effort to step away. You did however, saw how red his ears had turned, probably feeling embarrassed as well.
“W-We should continue.” Subaru stuttered as he grabbed a hold of your hands again, adjusting your body into a professional’s pose.
“Why?” You turned a little cheeky. “So you could see me blush again?”
You felt his grip tightened and before you could turn to face him, his whisper had already lingered in your ears.
“Yeah.” You could practically hear the joy in his voice. “So would you blush for me?”
And blushed you definitely did.
