The chime of the quaint coffee shop door sounds off and I take my respective place in line. "Ms White?" I look up from my phone and my lips press into a thin line.
"Mr Khavari." Im cautious to keep all hostility from my tone given that he is still a client and I have to present myself as professional in all situations. "Could I speak with you shortly?"
"I haven't ordered." Hey gestures to a table with two coffees placed in the middle. "Medium ice white chocolate americano with cream." He states as an accomplishment and im pleasantly surprised.
I want to tell him no but reluctantly nod and fall out from the line.
"I won't keep you long." I watch as Cyrus pulls a chair from beneath the table and holds it, gesturing for me to claim it. Once he's sat he slide the clear cup my way which I wearily eye
Could he have drugged it? My subconscious plants into my head. I hesitantly push it tot he side and watch as Cyrus' face falters.
"It was just purchased minutes ago." I look to Norah, the main barista behind the counter and she flashes me a smile, seeming to read my nervous expression.
"I don't have much time, what did you need to speak with me about?" I press. I don't want to be here any longer than need be and hate that I'm wasting time with Cyrus rather than giving myself time to get myself together before work.
"I wanted to apologize for the way I acted yesterday. I was out of line, as you put it, and fortunately was able to see my faults after I had exited for the day. I can say I didn't handle myself in an appropriate manner and believe that you were owed an apology."
Bullshit.
I don't believe one word of his forced apology and would rather leave without even saying a word back, but its just my luck well be working together and I would rather not have a hostile work environment.
"Thank you Mr Khavari, I appreciate your apology." I deeply sigh, hating every part about this interaction and want it to end but the professionalism in me keeps me planted in the chair with a strained smile.
" Id like to apologize for my actions as well. As you've seen the whole office was on edge and I was no exception from that." He takes a sip from the steaming hot paper cup and I follow in suit with my iced coffee.
"I see Ms White. I'm glad that we were able to admit our faults and move on from the severity of yesterday."
"Likewise Mr Khavari. On that note, I have to head into work. Thanks for the coffee, sir." He nods in my direction and I take that as my cue to leave. I quickly gather my belongings and glance back at the hazel eyed man who already has his eyes on me.
Okay?

"Saffron, whatever the hell you said to that man worked." Mr Jackson exclaims with a clap of his hands. He perches on the edge of his desk, hardly able to contain his excitement. "Mr Khavari has nearly tripled the original amount that we agreed on with he exception of a small extension on the project. I didn't dare ask him what the change in heart was but he seemed fond of you." The last part comes out more as a question than a statement but I'm left shocked
How?
"What? He threatened to have me fired on the way up?" The words meant for my mind slip out from my mouth and Jackson stills. I watch as his eyes nearly pop from his skull and his knuckles transition to a shade of white from gripping his desk so roughly.
Eyes are screwed shut and he puffs out a breath of air he seemed to be holding in. "I'm going to pretend I didn't hear those words come from your mouth considering your efforts earned everyone a bonus at the end of the year."
