I was sleeping quite soundly until I was awoken by yelling. It was distant, but bothersome nonetheless. It was too early for everyone to be awake yet. Sun was still an hour from rising. I rolled out of bed with a grunt, rubbing the sleep from my eyes as I slipped on my boots and ran out the door. I ran down the dirt path, following the sounds of yelling. Rounding the corner to the front gates, I immediately spotted Troy and a few others came into view. On the outside of the gates were Jake, Alicia and Nick's girlfriend. Travis and the pilot are nowhere in sight.
Luciana was laying on the ground, Nick overtop of her unconscious body. Alicia was talking Madison down from a panic attack, likely brought on by the absence of Travis.
"...not going to make it." I catch the end of Troy's sentence as I come up next to him.
"What the hell is going on?" I question the group, but it's mainly directed at Troy as I grip his arm, turning him toward me.
"Help her!" Nick screamed as he sat crumpled by her body.
"If we take her to the infirmary she may turn. It's against policy." His tone was calm and cool. As if someone's life did not hang in the balance.
"Troy." I pleaded, gently.
"It's your fault. You shot her." Nick had fire in his eyes.
"Nick, don't worry. I'll help her." I moved away from Troy's side, kneeling down by Luciana. I placed a comforting hand on Nick's shoulder as he looked at me with pleading eyes.
"I was defending my people and I'll do it again. I know what to do." In that moment Troy pulls out a gun and clicks off the safety, before cocking it back. He moved to aim the gun at the unconscious woman on the ground.
"Troy, you are not going to kill her. She has a pulse. That means I can save her." My fingers hovered over her carotid artery, feeling her pulse. She was heavily tachycardic and her skin was hot to the touch. If I didn't help her soon, she wasn't going to make it.
"Just her being here is putting all of my people at risk."
"Nick. Blake. Bring her to medical. Now." They both moved closer to Luciana at my order, but backed down at Troy's glare as he moved to close the space between his gun and the unconscious woman.
"I said now, Blake. I'll be there soon." I commanded as I moved myself between the gun and Luciana, resting my forehead against the barrel of the loaded weapon. "I'm not scared of you, Troy. Do it."
"Davina. Move." Troy gritted through his teeth.
"I said you are not killing her, Troy." Blake and Nick both moved to pick up Luciana, carrying her limp body to the infirmary. I slowly stood from my kneeling position, the barrel of the gun following me as I stood. I could feel everyone's eyes on me and Troy, no longer on the dying girl in front of them.
"If she turns, it's on me and I will take care of it. But until then I am going to do everything I can to save her life." I placed my hand on the barrel of the gun, and pushed it down gently, until the gun was resting in Troy's hand, by his side.
