welcome to blackspace. you have been living here for as long as you can remember...or have you?

basil awoke in black space, looking around the pitch black. he couldn't really see anything...only a bunch of doors and his hands. nothing but him and his thoughts.

he knew he had to be here for a reason, but...why? why now? after everything that's happened...his fight with sunny, the truth, almost losing his best friend...this was the last thing he needed.

he figured he couldn't just sit here. this dream wouldn't end on its own, after all. he knew how these things worked, he's been here before. so, he reluctantly took a peek inside the closest door.

he wanted to get this over with as soon as possible. he knew that he was needed in the waking world; that sunny needed him. what if something happened while he was gone?

behind the door was the hanging corpse of mari. to be honest, that's about what he expected. what he did that day disturbed him, sure, but he wasn't letting this dream get to him. he didn't see anything else in there, so he closed the door and continued on.

behind the second door was a familiar scene. it was him, sobbing in the bathroom at night, clutching the garden shears like his life depended on it. he turned around to go to the next one, but he couldn't. the body from the previous room followed him here, blocking the exit with her cold, dead stare.

he went deeper into the room. 'mari' remained at the door. slowly, he went over to...himself, and sat next to him. maybe the room wants him to comfort his copy. he didn't see anything but him and the cold tiles, so that must be the case.

"hey..." he started, making his voice sound softer. he put a hand on the copy's shoulder. "you did it to protect him. i know you did...and that's okay."

there was no response. it was as if they weren't in the same space, the same time. he tried again, with more conviction.

"everything is going to be okay in the end. sunny's going to come back for you eventually. you don't have to keep crying over him." he cringed slightly at that last part, knowing that he was calling himself out. but he had to say it to get out of here.

again, no response. did any of this matter? did he miss something? he looked around again, but there wasn't anything to be found. it wasn't even a proper bathroom; there weren't and showers or sinks or toilets. this was the only thing he could do.

he felt movement from the other, and watched in horror as he lifted up the shears, holding them just above his arm. his first instinct was to stop it, but a morbid part of him was curious about what would happen next.

then, in a quick, jabbing motion, he cut into it. crimson blood pooled from the wound, staining his clothes and the floor.

basil wished he had acted a little quicker. he knew he could've stopped that, but he was just a bit too slow...now his copy was bleeding all over the room. wait...was he ever there in the first place?

he looked again, and there was no trace of the other basil. all the blood was gone, as if it had been magically cleaned up. only the shears remained.

was it trying to tell him...that he needed to cut himself?

he pushed that thought away the instant it entered his mind. no, there was another way out. there had to be.
