So just because this is comeback day I'm making a double update! Normally updates will be every Friday don't forget to comment STAYS ❣️🌈
The clock struck midnight as Chris was seated by his window in his hotel room from where he had an overview of Sydney. He loved this city so much. It never really slept, there always were lightened buildings and busy streets no matter the time. There was always noise. At least it kept him company during the night.
Chris sighed as he took a book from the nightstand by his bed. He chuckled as he read the title out loud. ‘‘Dracula by Bram Stocker, well let’s see how much uncle Drac told this human friend of his ‘’
Despite being a thousand years old Chris didn’t know much of the outside world. So he learned about It through books, old journals, a bit of television as well but almost nothing from personal experience.
A thousand Years Was enough to learn wonders but Chris didn’t learn so much. He couldn’t ever forget that night in Transylvania… the night that pushed him away from his home forever. He had never stopped applying his mother’s advice ever since.
Her warning..
‘stay indoors Chris
Don’t go near the humans Chris
Keep to yourself Chris ‘
Well ‘ever since ‘ is an exaggeration… he stopped applying it at some point. When he was around a hundred and eighteen, teenage years of a vampire.
Back then he would’ve loved to disagree with her and prove her wrong. But every time he stumbled on the human myths on vampires… he couldn’t help but think she was right. They were depicted as monsters and heartless blood thirsty creatures.
Chris knew He wasn’t one of those! He never tasted blood from a living being ever before!! He only fed on stored blood from hospital blood bags… well he stole those from time to time. Sometimes he’d go on weeks without even feeding. He sustained himself with human food but mostly looked sick during it all. Due To That treatment He imposed on himself he had some of the best self control any vampire had ever had.
Why? Out of fear of what he’d become . He didn’t want to see that part of himself… he didn’t want to become the monster the humans thought them to be. So he made up his mind : never feed unless absolutely necessary. As of this moment Chris had fed last week so he was still feeling healthy and strong.
The young vampire chuckled as he continued reading the book on his lap. ‘’that Is so false, this human has a lot of imagination to write this load of crap. I wonder if uncle Drac ever read this book ‘’
When he was young, Chris loved his uncle Dracula. The ancient vampire taught him everything He knew today about his own self. Vampire customs, history, anatomy and so much more. In Chris’ eyes Count Dracula wasn’t some horror story, he was family. So reading Bram Stocker’s book made him laugh…. But deep down it also saddened him. Humans had such misconceptions about them. He felt a great heaviness in his chest. Why do humans judge without properly researching?
Maybe that was why he went on his own. He cut ties with the Elders of their community. To him, this was all a viscous cycle that he has been watching all his life…. And he was a thousand years old so he has seen a lot!
Hate and fear from both sides, consuming their minds and blinding their reasoning. There was never a chance to talk and show that this was all driven by the fear of the unknown. Instead the Elders of each vampire community in each continent across the globe decided to hide in the shadows, making their kind nothing but a myth.
Now humans assume what they want, write what they want, think what they want. It got to the point of fantasy. The old vampire hunter families either denied the truth completely or kept it a secret within their bloodlines only so they could have freedom to act in the shadows. To the public vampires were a fantasy and fruit of imagination, to the vampire hunters they were target And a menace.
When he had had enough of watching this without doing anything and with the orders of the Elders controlling everyone’s moves, Chris left and started His journey around the world. He was trying to understand these Curious and odd humans. He wanted to break the cycle.
‘’ okay enough Reading for tonight, let’s go on a walk ‘’ he said as he closed the book with a sigh. He stood up and wore his favorite velvet coat then took a stop to carefully put on his blue contact lenses and tame his wild black hair so He’d hopefully start looking like a normal person and blend in. He left his hotel room once satisfied and hit the streets of Sydney.
He loved this city. He always came back here every time he felt aimless. By now he knew the city’s ins and outs like the back of his hand. Actually he liked Australia in general. He thought that the people here were nicer than in any other country he visited so he stuck around a couple of times. The longest he had stayed was 5 years then he vanished to avoid suspicion. If he had bought a house he’d sell it and leave no trace behind. After a couple of decades he decided to stop buying houses or making relationships. It was easier to leave that way, easier to vanish…. Easier to forget the good times. Moreover it got annoying to come up with a different identity and life each time he came back. So he stuck with his real name since after a hundred years no-one would suspect anything When he comes back. The whole country would be different! It was a lonely life but it had its perks. He had no ties and he was free.
He stopped at a coffee shop he had always frequented during his visits. Coming in he was first hit by the diverse smells that overwhelmed his heightened senses. It was like a cluster of living human blood bags all at once… the word open buffet crossed his mind but that was just him being sarcastic. He lowered his head and went to sit in a corner by the door.
From the free banquet to the delicious pastries.. It was too much delicious and taunting smells…. Yes pastries were another distraction and temptation to Chris. According to the humans they’d say he had a sweet tooth and according to the Elders he had to loosen up on his sugar intakes or else he’d have a sugar rush. Who knows what he’d do then!
The last informations about the human civilization in Chris’ mind dated from the 19th century. He had stopped going to their public places and acquainting himself with their daily lives for 2 centuries… he may have traveled almost anywhere by now and knew basic rules of society but he didn’t know the details of the 21st century humans so as he checked the menu he was quite surprised to see that it was more of a booklet than a menu and the diversity of choices In it confused him more.
‘are humans evolving or… going backwards. What the hell is wrong with their tastes? What is even mint chocolate? Why do they have to consume this much… how do they even start to choose from all this?’ he thought to himself.
There were a lot of things that baffled him… like football, what’s the point of it? Or Fine Cuisine? It’s all food why make some look fancy ? In short Chris was still learning.
After some minutes of confusion and reading of the menu, Chris settled on a simple order, plain coffee with no sugar. He had just about enough from these complicated choices.
As he waited, Chris noticed the door opening and a new customer come in. This customer was a petit male. What caught the vampire’s attention was the scent that this human carried on him.. It was an exquisite smell… like the purest and healthiest of blood Chris has ever encountered.
The vampire had to bite his inner lip and look down. Through all these years he had never came across such a smell on a human… he could only imagine the taste of his blood. He didn’t understand the rush of thirst that came over him so suddenly and the hunger that almost blinded his senses. His hands curled into fists as he felt his fangs itch and broaden just a little bit more.
The vampire was famished all of a sudden… yet he had just fed last week. This never happened to him. This hunger felt different as well. Any other would have completely become oblivious of everything and jumped on the human but not Chris. Chris knew how to restrain himself even if he was barely doing so for now.
The human boy was small in frame, blond. His golden hair was cut in a mullet. He smiled at the waitress and took a seat in table of the opposite side of Chris’. Thankfully he was a bit far and his face was still unknown to the hungry vampire. The friendly individual set his backpack to the side and took a notebook out. ‘okay let’s see’ he said to himself as he took a pen and smiled. He had a list written down in the notebook that appeared to be a to-do list and he was about to review it. He giggled a bit as he saw the waitress come with his plate of brownies.
Chris on the other side was watching the side profile of the human. When he heard him giggle like that it was almost enough to subdue his hunger. He sounded so innocent.
The boy helped the waitress set the plate on the table ‘’thank you so much’’ he said politely.
‘holy garlic bread his voice is deep! ‘Thought Chris bewildered. Yes Christopher, a vampire swore by garlic bread. He loved it! Ever since he discovered it in Italy and despite not being able to stand garlic, he didn’t give it up. After a couple of years in Japan and a deep interest in chemistry, the vampire was able to find his way around garlic and now he and garlic bread were inseparable! But that aside He was shocked by the human boy’s voice. With a face like that no one would’ve imagined he’d have a voice so deep.
Christopher stood up to leave, just so he’d avoid making a mess or risking to lose his control but then as he was standing, he had a clear view of the human’s face when the boy looked at the waitress.
Damn it, Chris didn’t see this coming.
Meanwhile, the boy started on his brownies with such pure innocent excitement one would think he was a ten-year-old while reading his to do list and crossing out some elements. After some seconds he looked up and his gaze crossed with Chris’. He saw that the stranger from across the room almost looked shocked… petrified actually. The human boy smiled at him then waved with his small hand. Chris snapped out of his trance and felt a bit embarrassed at being caught staring. He just knew that his ears were probably reddened as he gave the human a small smile.
The human came back to his food, he didn’t want to linger on this just so he wouldn’t embarrass the stranger more. Chris on the other hand didn’t want to drop this instead he went to the human
‘’ H-hello… sorry for staring that was very unpleasant of me...’’ he said trying to sound friendly although with this close proximity he felt that his hunger had doubled in intensity.
‘’ oh its okay mate ‘’ said the boy in response. His strong Australian accent somehow amplifying His deep voice.
‘’I’m Chan… Bang Chan’’
‘’ my name’s Felix ‘’
Felix extended his hand to shake Chris’
‘’wow mate your hands are ice cold
‘’ oh… sorry I tend to get cold easily
‘’please sit down don’t stay standing like that have some brownies.’’ Offered Felix.
Chris complied politely with the nice requests. He can never say no to brownies! Who can?
“You look like someone I knew that’s why I... Was staring earlier I kind of couldn’t help it
‘’ it’s okay, apparently I’m one of those faces ‘’ he said with a chuckle.
‘’ y-yeah’’
That was true Felix looked and sounded identical to someone Chris knew. The vampire couldn’t believe he was seeing an identical copy of a boy he considered a brother back when he was 10 years-old in Transylvania.
That boy he used to know was a human too…. He was named Felix as well.
