FIFTEEN.
"Would it be possible for you to not squish my foot?" Charlotte hissed at Sadie in as low of a tone as she could manage.
Sadie turned to look over at her best friend's twin, covered head to toe in black clothing, who had smeared black eyeliner across her cheeks and tied a bandana around her forehead.
"Maybe if we weren't hiding in the bushes the answer would be yes."
"Once upon a time you might have thought this was fun."
"Yeah, when we were about two feet shorter and not hiding outside of a cop's house. A cop who just so happens to have a mind for creative punishments and who holds very high standards in the eyes of my boyfriend."
"Creative? Do we need to abort mission and extract her?"
Sadie pushed Charlotte down by her shoulder and rolled her eyes at the girl.
"Brett's not a bad guy. You have to let her fix this on her own."
"When the hell have you ever known me to do that?"
Sadie's response was interrupted as they saw Brett's front door open.
Brett had to force away the wave of relief that he felt when he laid eyes on Cameron. Seeing her standing in front of him, wrapped up in a sweater with her natural hair hanging out, brought him more comfort than he had felt in days. Obviously, he had been informed when she was safely back at the club but it didn't compare to seeing it for himself.
"Can we talk?" she asked, damn near begged.
Cameron was standing outside in the cold on a man's doorstep prepared to beg for forgiveness. What the hell had happened to her?
Six feet of muscle had happened to her, and it didn't look too forgiving.
"I thought you were done talking," Brett responded coolly.
"I owe you an explanation,"
Brett cocked his head to the side slightly and took a deep breath, inhaling her warm scent. Sometimes the way his body reacted to hers made him think that she was good for his blood pressure. Other times, he thought she might send him in a breakdown.
"Now isn't a good time."
Cameron flinched at his cold tone. Was he planning on discussing their relationship after he joined her security service full time?
"Well the best time would have obviously been before last night but I can't go back and change that. Please, let me in to explain myself."
"What part were you planning on explaining?"
"I was going to start at the part that left you with a gun pointed at your head, if that's okay."
"Oh, I would love to hear that one," a high-pitched voice sang from behind the door.
Cameron almost didn't have time to regret all of her decisions before Brett threw his head down and let out a dramatic groan.
"What did I say about staying in the living room?"
A dark-haired girl's head popped around Brett's side with a shit-eating grin. Cameron also noticed that she was tall and beautiful. That wasn't helping.
"This doesn't look like a work conversation to me," the girl snipped, looking between the two and settling on Cameron, "Do you work together?"
"Who are you?" Cameron asked right back.
