Brett wasn't quite sure how he had been left alone with Boyce on their way to locate John and Patricia Marshall.
"Just ask the question," Boyce barked at him without turning around, obviously having felt the daggers he was sending with his eyes.
"You really had to pull a gun on me?" he snapped back, loosening his tie a bit. This day had already been too much to handle.
"Call it dedication."
"I'll stick with insanity. But hey, what do I know?"
Boyce stopped in his tracks, forcing Brett to do the same.
"You know nothing. And somehow you've also managed to get more out of that girl than anybody else has. Consider yourself on my list."
Brett was sincerely hoping he was going to have time to cancel the request for his position change.
"Does that list include other agents that have no idea what kind of games you've been up to?"
The men were in a standoff, neither of them being personalities to back down. They also both happened to be fighting for something worth the annoyance of the other's presence.
"Until the end of the day you can ask me questions that you need to know. Need to know. I am not getting in the middle of you having a chick fight. Now unless you have a question you better get moving."
The man did have a point. They had left Cameron alone, after much protest, and they were on a tight schedule if they were going to find this ominous sister before somebody else did.
"Do other agents know?"
"No."
Jesus, the girl had a security team that didn't even know she really was?
"Not very fucking safe, is it?"
"I handle it."
Brett held his hands up in question.
"So you consider this situation what, a glitch?"
"You're the glitch. Without you this would never have happened. Those girls are damned good at what they do."
That wasn't helping Brett feel very comfortable.

Cameron was rushing down hallways, looking for any sign of her sister. She had managed to convince Boyce to let her go alone and had been instructed by Brett to look as quickly as possible. Thankfully, Sadie had sent the Masters – and Mistress Gianna – to drag her back home and they managed to reach Brett exactly when they needed backup. With her friends set up around the venue, she felt significantly safer. She would have to have a long chat with Sadie about secrets another time.
Cameron paused in front of a supply closet and took a deep breath, sending out a silent prayer in her head. The girls had always loved hiding in closets and coming out pretending to be each other.
She opened the door cautiously while whispering, "It's me!"
Charlotte charged her in a hug, yanking her inside and slamming the door.
"Thank you sweet jesus!" Charlotte groaned, "I thought I was going to have to spend the whole damn night in here."
Cameron shook the girl off like a bug.
"What the fuck are you doing here?"
"There were paparazzi all over this place and I couldn't get a hold of Boyce. I dropped my bag in the room he booked for me but nobody was answering. I went out to look for him, which I know was dumb, and had to hide from staff in here. It's like I walked into a goddamn beehive!"
