"Let's break up. I can't do this anymore."

She met his cold gaze as her heart seized in panic and despair. She always knew Joo Dan Tae played a hand in her mother's death and had been careful not to bring it up to Seokhoon, but it seemed like he had found out. His expression was cold but his eyes were in pain, like it was killing him to say all this to her.

"Are you being serious?" She asked, tears filling her eyes. Her heart beat fast in panic, knowing what it meant for her if he left her right then.

His expression dropped for a second before becoming cold again. "Yes. I'm serious. I don't care if you hate me or resent me, I think that would be better for us."

She looked down then, holding in her tears and despair. Why did he have to find out now? Why did he have to do this now? It was devastating enough to lose him but especially after the news she found out... there was no way she could handle this on her own.

She was about to tell him right then, but stopped, thinking of what knowing this could do to him. He was stressed out enough about school, his sister, and now his father. How would he be able to handle finding out he would be a father right after finding out the cruel things his own father did to the mother of his child? The sad fact was that she loved him too much to put him through any pain, even if she had to bear it all on her own, even if it was equally his responsibility. The last thing she ever wanted was for him to be even more burdened.

Up until then, she never understood why her mother hadn't said a word to Ha Yoonchul about her pregnancy and had suffered all on her own. But now here she was, about to make the same choice as her mother because to her, the person she was doing it for, meant everything to her.

"Okay," she spoke quietly. "Let's do that. If that's what you want." She looked up then at his surprised eyes, trying really hard not to cry. "But Seokhoon, it's not your fault. We can't choose who our parents are. So you can let go of any burdens you have." She offered him a sad smile, hoping he would hold these words in his heart and let go of his guilt at least some point in the future.

She watched him as he turned and walked away, finally letting the tears fall as she touched her stomach, silently apologizing to the baby who would never have a dad.
