Clarke pov:

The news of my triumph against Shana Branwoda spread quickly through all the clans. It's only been three days, but respect for me has increased considerably. I don't know if it was because I won the fight, or the open display of affection that Lexa and I shared. Anyway, I'm not complaining.

The meeting ended a few minutes ago, as boring as ever. Lexa and I stayed in the throne room along with Baldkeepa's knee-head. Ha, I must comment that to the natblidas. They came to visit me last night and they told me about the clever prank they are preparing. Now that I'm better, even Lexa won't be able to stop me.

As always, Baldkeepa questions every decision Lexa decides to make. If it were up to me, I would have pushed him off a tower balcony and claim it was an "accident." No one would believe me, but I wouldn't mind if it were known. His death would do this world good.

When I'm about to stab him with my favorite dagger, Lexa orders him to retreat. Thank God, or I would run out of a dagger from how deep I was going to drive it. He reluctantly withdraws and we both breathe easier without his presence. We look at each other amused and I open my mouth to comment on some idiocy about him, but there is a knock on the door.

"Come in." Lexa orders and we get serious.

The door opens with a bang and my mother comes running, straight to me. "Oh, my baby. You're okay." She squeezes me against her with too much force, so much that I barely breathe. She separates us and hollows my cheeks. Her eyes are covered with tears. "I thought I was going to lose you." She starts crying.

"Hey, hey. I'm fine, I've won. Nothing is going to happen to me." I hug her and comfort her as much as I can. I hadn't thought about the scare I was giving my mother in Azgeda.

A month and I already forget my mother, what a terrible daughter I am. I whisper comforting words into her ear as I rub her back. Luckily she is not much taller than me. I open my eyes and see how Lexa looks at us excitedly. I extend a hand and she hesitates, but takes it. I pull her up and she joins in our improvised family hug. The doors open and I know it's Roan.

"Hey, you don't invite me," he says with false anger.

Mom separates and grabs him. "Come here you too."

The five of us embrace again. I feel wetness on my shoulder and turn to Lexa, who is crying. I smile at her and she kisses me briefly. I know she hasn't had this kind of contact with anyone since she was a child, a long time ago. Including her in our family is new to her.

We part and rinse the tears, putting our usual masks back on. The time to be vulnerable is over. Mom smiles at us, placing one hand on my cheek and the other on Roan's. It is a gesture she has made since we were little, I really missed her motherly warmth.

"Don't ever scare me like that again, or I'll kill you." She threatens me.

"What if I die?" I ask jokingly.

"Then I'll revive you to kill you myself." I swallow hard and shut up. I have no doubt that she is capable. Roan laughs and she glares at him. "The threat is open to you too." He stops instantly and the one who laughs is me now.

"Naiplana, it is an honor that you grace us with your presence." My girlfriend so diplomatic as always. It seems that not even making her participate in the pranks on Baldkeepa serves to make her less serious.

"Heda." Nomon bows, showing her respect. "You may be the commander, but hurt my daughter and not even your position is going to rescue you from my anger.

Lexa opens her eyes wide and swallows hard, nodding. My mother is scary when she wants to. She smiles satisfied with her reaction and softens her gaze. I take Lexa's hand and squeeze it hard. Poor of her, she's not used to threats from ai nomon. I raise her hand and kiss her knuckles. She smiles at me and a throat clearing snaps us out of our bubble.
