Haley's POV
When I woke that morning, I felt refreshed for the first time in a long time. I work as a patient care tech in the local emergency room. The last couple of months have been nothing short of a nightmare, the influx of patients rocking our small community. I decided it was time I thought about myself for once; and had booked a vacation to Atlanta, Georgia. Having prepared for the flight for weeks and convincing my mother, I definitely didn't need her to come with me to " Take care of the man whores." I never thought of myself as much to look at, but I knew I wasn't exactly ugly. Standing at 5'4", bright blue eyes, and shoulder length blonde hair. One might believe me to be almost "Barbie Like," except for one thing Barbie definitely wasn't plus size, and she definitely didn't have cellulite. Just barely older than 22, I shouldn't have to worry about counting calories; I should be lip-locked with the man of my dreams, but he's a fat-shaming bastard. I never took my appearance into account until he very kindly let me know he was out of my league. As if. Maybe that's why I am so desperate to get away from my comfortable hometown; as much as I love the place, many of its occupants are closed-minded individuals. Not that I believed Georgia to be any better actually, I thought it to be so much worse. Still, I was once told exposure therapy was an excellent way to overcome your troubles. Shaking the negative thoughts from my head, I finish packing my things in two small suitcases. There's no turning back now, Atlanta here I come.
Daryl's POV
"It reeks in here." I grab a beer from the fridge swallowing it in one long gulp. Merle scoffs, throwing his heavy booted feet onto the coffee table.
" Well, excuse me, Darlina; you should spray your pretty perfume then; have this place smelling nice for your bitch ass." Merle's eyes, bloodshot and unfocused, drift to look at his brother. I knew he was high; hell, there weren't many times that Merle wasn't high, but by the smell, he had smoked enough weed to put a small elephant in a coma.
" Shut up." I drawl, trying to put an end to this conversation, knowing how fast it could go south.
" I know you didn't tell me to shut up, Lil brother; you forget whose damn house you're shacking up in" Now, technically, he's not wrong when our father (the bastard) finally bit the dust all possessions as few as there were; was left to Merle, but without a job of his own it is my responsibility to keep the roof we have over our heads remaining over our heads. Using what little I have saved up from the local automotive shop, we barely can cover our bills.
"Whatever, man, I'm leavin." Grabbing my old beat-up boots and bow, I head out towards the woods letting the door swing back and crash against the doorframe. Out here, that's truly where I feel like I'm home.
Haley's POV
My first impression of Georgia was the Heat. My god, was it hot. I felt like I was suffocating. My second impression being it was beautiful. The streets were lively, and everyone was so tan. I glanced down at my pasty skin sticking out like a sore thumb.
"Toto, I've got a feeling we're not in Kanas anymore." I chuckle at my own joke. " Hey lady, you getting out or not?" the taxi man looks in the rearview mirror in annoyance. I quickly apologized and stepped out onto the street. My feet, just barely hitting the pavement before he peels away, tires screeching. " He must not like my joke very much." Shaking my head, I walk towards the small Motel located just outside of Atlanta. Its peeling siding and the red roof were standing out amongst the buildings. While it wasn't exactly what I had in mind, apparently everyone had the same idea to vacation in the city on this particular weekend, making it impossible to book a room within its limits. Meaning the closest I could get was a run-down Motel just outside the city's border. Stepping into the office to check-in, I'm met with a cute bubbly female who goes by Gemmy.
