The stands erupted in cheers and boos. With the score of 450 to 410, Gryffindor had won the quidditch finals yet again. The crowd spilled out into the field making it difficult for the teams to land but the second they did they were being tousled and congratulated left and right.
It had been quite the game. It started off with each team taking turns scoring until six hours and 300 points later slytherin scored twice in a row. From that moment on everyone knew that Gryffindor's only chance was to catch the snitch before slytherin could score 150 points for slytherin had been giving a taste of hope and they would never let that go. But now, after an amazing 10 hour game, the Gryffindor common room was ecstatic.
"You all have totally out done your selves,"lily said with a smile but with an ashamed edge to it gesturing to the table of food stolen from the kitchen.
"Thank you kindly!" Sirius was already woozy leaning on James for support. "We really are amazing!...tell me, where's moonsie? I wanted to congratulate him some more."
"Pads, he doesn't play quidditch, remember?" James only slightly less tipsy could still stand up.
"I haven't seen him Sirius. Maybe he went to the dormitory. You know he doesn't like big party's," lily directed without a drop of butter beer in her system.
"Right." Sirius interjected standing up as straight as he could. "I'll go look for him by my self."
James who was going to insist he could come too was immediately distracted by the thought of being with lily. He figured that if he could keep her long enough he could get a chance to shoot his shot after his other house mates retired for the night. He thought he could kiss her but decided that that might be too forward even for him. He thought he could profess his love but that couldn't change the fact that lily still wouldn't go out with him and he already did that twice a day for the past six years.
"James?" He took a double take and still wasn't absolutely sure lily had said his name.
"Ooo...erm...uh yes?" He stuttered shocked.
"Im um heading to bed," She replied realizing she had lead him on.
"Oh umm... good night, Lily," he deflated
"Good night, Potter." Lily hesitated but quickly turned away and went.
James waited, standing there hesitant. To what, he didn't know. Perhaps he was waiting for lily to return or for one of the marauders to spot him and shake him out of his stare, but that never happened. He felt like he stood there for longer than the game, watching people and sipping his now empty cup until he found him self walking to his dorm. Completely thoughtless he turned the door nob and pushed in the door.
It was empty.
