James didn't think anything of it being as tired as he was. He climbed right into his four poster, without changing out of his robes, and laid there. He was deep in thought but was unable to form real ideas. He wondered if lily would ever go out with him. He wondered what he would live for if she didn't. He wondered if Sirius would climb, as his anamingus, into his bed and sleep at his feet. He wondered if he would do the same to moony. He had noticed that pads had been choosing Remus's bed more than his recently. This wasn't surprising to James. He knew Sirius liked him but he wasn't sure if Remus knew. Remus. Sirius.

"Remus?" James could barely get the sound out.

No answer.

"Sirius?" He tried. but there was no answer. He reluctantly hauled himself up far enough to see his friends beds.

"Empty?" James sounded like he had just watched his dog be kicked. He fell back to the comfort of his sheets reminding himself that people should be sleeping at this hour.

He tossed to his left. I'm missing something. He turned to his right. What am I missing? He flipped to his back. Where are they? Suddenly, James became aware of the situation he was in. He knew that if he had gone to bed before Remus had then they were all in trouble.

He sat up in alarm and felt to the floor. No longer drunk, He crawled to his luggage, and dug through it looking for the map and his wand. He was never good at having his wand when he needed it. That alone had gotten him in so much trouble that he figured he should have learned by now. He was sure he'd get it straightened out in the future.

Just then he felt the smooth mahogany by the tips of his fingers and grabbed it as if it would try to jump away.

"ACCIO, MAP," he demanded from the chest slapping his hand on the edge in anger both in himself and the situation. The map came from behind him as it was on Sirius bed. Sirius must have forgotten too James thought recalling that he had been the last one to use it while trying to find lily before the game. He unfolded it, probably too violently, and flattened it out on the cluttered floor. Thought his emergency, he had had to take the time to comb through the names and dots at find them.

Not there.

He looked again.

Still not there.

James was immediately reminded of what he was missing, of where they are, of why they're not on the map. He hauled him self to the window and  sure enough, it was a full moon.
