"This is so exciting! You've been talking about him for weeks!" Freddie heard Carly say as he approached her and Sam at their lockers right as lunch was about to begin.

"I know" Sam blushed, closing her locker.

"What's up, chicas?" Freddie said as he joined them.

"Ricky finally asked Sam out" Carly informed him.

"Saturday night, baby!" Sam added.

"Ah" Freddie responded, shooting Sam an awkward, tight smile.

"I need you to help me, Carls. I don't have anything nice to wear and I'm not rummaging through Melanie's closet again" Sam begged.

"Why does it matter so much what you wear?" Freddie asked curiously.

Sam rolled her eyes at him and turned her attention back to Carly. "I really need this to go well."

"Of course I'll help you" Carly agreed as the three of them walked down the corridor towards the cafeteria.

When Saturday night finally arrived, Sam sat in front of the mirror in Carly's bedroom while her best friend was rummaging through her own closet trying to find something for Sam to wear.

"What about this one?" Carly asked, holding up a purple lacy dress.

"No gross" Sam said defensively and Carly sighed, shoving the rejected dress back into her closet.

"How about this one?" Carly said, now holding up a dark green strapless dress.

"I could never pull that off" Sam claimed.

"Sure you can, just try it on" Carly demanded, shoving the dress into Sam's arms.

Sam stood up from the chair in only her bra and boxer shorts. She stepped reluctantly into the dress and pulled it up. "Zip the back?" she requested, and Carly ran around behind her to zip it up.

"Wow" Carly's jaw dropped as she stood in front of her best friend. "It's perfect."

"I really don't think I'm classy enough to make this work" Sam decided, staring at herself in the mirror.

"I really wish you'd stop saying things like that" Carly replied. "You think you don't deserve to feel and look your best, but you do. You look like a million bucks and Ricky is going to melt when he sees you" her best friend said in a sappy voice.

"I don't look like me" Sam concluded.

"You look like the you who is about to go on the best date of her little life. Now go downstairs and put your shoes on cause Spencer will be ready to drive you to the club any minute now" Carly said as she practically pushed Sam out her bedroom door and down the stairs.

Carly watched in horror as Sam pulled her high top sneakers over her feet.

"Now I look like me" Sam smiled proudly. Carly sighed as the blond smiled warmly back at her.

"Whoa-hoa-hoa! Somebody's looking all fancy for her fancy date" Spencer said as he exited his bedroom and joined the girls in the doorway.

"Thanks Spence" Sam chuckled. "We'd better go" she added.

The two waved goodbye to Carly as Sam headed out and Spencer filed out after her, closing the apartment door behind them.

"So" Spencer said awkwardly in an attempt to break the silence on the drive to the under 21 club. "You nervous?"
