"Keep your heads down!" screamed the commander.
Everyone frantically rushed around, pointlessly firing their weapons into the darkness.
"Sir, the guys still can't see anything."
"But they can see us, just stay low and try bot to get hit!"
The shuttles screeched overhead, their quadruple barreled, fully automatic plasma guns lighting the area for half a second with an eerie blue glow.
The Natives wouldn't lay off for a second, the soldiers didn't have time to avoid the first bullet before another one took its place. And if you didn't get down in time the white hot bolts of pure plasma would tear through your flesh like a shuttle through space, cauterizing the wound immediately leaving no blood, and no formation of scar tissue. Just a hole.
"Commander, we're losing too many men!"
"Just keep your heads...!"
Thwack!
The dull moist sound of solid fire through human flesh echoed through the night, filling the dense jungle air with the smell of burned meat lingering until dawn, attracting strange and deadly creatures.
