========================She smiled as he slid into the seat beside her and pecked her cheek. His beautiful brown hair shone and he was just as handsome as the first day she asked him out.
"You look beautiful today," he said.
She blushed. "I know".
She knew she was beautiful. She didn't need any man to tell her that. Her blonde hair was packed into a ponytail and the school uniform fit her in all the right places. She was blessed with smooth skin and a pretty face to match. And confidence that could shame any White house president.
Hence, why she was able to ask out Jonah Mavis, one of the football players she'd had a crush on for a few weeks now. They went for a couple of dates and hit it off.
She had never felt so happy.
"Stop staring, you'll burn a hole in his face," said her best friend, Cara.
"Let me be, Cara. I'm just admiring him." She tapped the brunette and they both fell into a fit of giggles.
Something was worrying Jonah. She could see it in the way he tensed up when she placed her hand to in his, in how his eyes roamed around the room landing on one particular person.
Grayson Shayne. Her brother.
Heidi Shayne was not stupid. Something had happened at that party.
What party? You may ask.
She and her brother had agreed to throw a party on their birthday on a school night because she didn't want to wait till the weekend. Her plans for the weekend was spending time at the library and going to the spa later.
There was loud music everywhere and even louder teenagers. There was alcohol from her father's cabinet on which everyone binged like there was no tomorrow. Jonah stuck to her for almost the entire night until she shooed him away to have some fun with her girlfriends.
Jonah had appeared later with swollen lips which she did not notice in her drunken state. "Going already, babe?" She slurred heavily. Jonah nodded frantically, placed a kiss on her lips and left through the front door.
She was happy.

Jonah had been more aloof lately. As if scared of something and she was determined to know what got under his skin.
The Jonah she knew would not wince at her touch. The Jonah she knew would not look at her with such a sorry expression a contrast to the tenderness of the first few weeks of their relationship.
And the Jonah she thought she knew would not yank his phone away from her like it was poison.
"Don't touch my phone", he growled menacingly, his eyes narrowing into slits. She stood her ground unfazed.
"What the hell, Jonah? The wifi here is not working properly. No need to piss your pants I just wanted to hotspot my phone," she growled back. She watched as he flushed with shame.
"Alright, what's going on,Jonah?" She asked. She knew they had been dancing around this topic for weeks.
"What do you mean?" He asked, clueless. For some reason, that annoyed Heidi more than the fact that he was clearly avoiding her. It was one thing to purposely avoid some one. It was another if the person didn't even realise he was doing it.
"What is wrong with you?" She said so softly that he almost didn't hear her. "You've been acting off ,been avoiding me and now wouldn't even let me use your phone". She held back a breath before staring him dead in those pale green eyes that stole her breath away. "What is going on?"
