After hours on the bus and many stops, we finally pull into the bus station in Houston. I grab my suitcases from the sidewalk where they had been placed and walk towards the exit unsure of where I'll go.  The clock on the wall says it's 2:47am which means I don't want to be walking around downtown at this hour but with no where else to go I'm going to have to. I could always stick around the bus station until the morning but this place gives me the creeps. I walk out into the humid night air looking left then right, I mentally flip a coin then start walking right further into the heart of downtown Houston. I pull my small but heavy suitcases behind me for a few more blocks passing by nice hotels and contemplate staying in one of them but I really don't want to spend all my money on one or two night of comfort and be left with nothing. With a huff I decide to keep walking around some more slowly I start to loose hope in finding anywhere to stay. Not wanting to give up I keep walking for a few more blocks until I realize I've been walking around all night because it's now morning, feeling defeated I'm about to give up when I spot a small dinner with a bright neon open sign above the door and I feel a small amount of relief wash over me. The bell chimes above the door as I enter and take a seat at one of the booths in the back pulling my suitcases under the table and resting my feet on them.

"Hey doll face what can I get you" the waiter says holding his notepad out in one hand and a pen in the other while smacking his gum like he'd much rather be somewhere else. "Hi Um can I just get a coffee and a small stack please" he writes it down then shouts it out to the cook completely defeating the purpose of writing down my order in the first place. I expect him to walk away as another customer walks in but he surprises me and sits down across from me and strikes up a conversation. "Where you from girl" "I I'm um from New York" I say tucking a strand of hair behind my ear then I start fidgeting with my fingers. "Did you just get in or are you heading out" he asks glancing down at my suitcases. "Oh uh just getting in" I say leaning back in the booth trying to act somewhat nonchalant. "Do you have family here in the city" he asks me and I shack my head no. "Honey do you have someplace to go" I look down and shake my head no again feeling embarrassed and not wanting to see the pity in his eyes. "Okay well my name is Sean and you my dear can come stay with me if you'd like and I know that right now Mrs. DiDi is looking for another waitress" I look up at Sean wondering why he's want to help me. "Oh no it's okay I don't want to put you out, I'm sure I can fin-" "Honey I didn't mean it when I said if you'd like" I look at him a little dumbfounded by his boldness "I can't let you just wonder around now can I" there's a ding and Sean gets up grabbing my plate and coffee then comes back placing both in front of me. "Now eat up I'm off in 20 minutes then we can go" I nod and start eating and finish just as Sean's shift ends. We've been walking for 10 minutes when he turns a corner then says "What's your name by the way? Here I am taking you home with me and I didn't even get your name" he lets out a small breathy chuckle while shacking his head.

"Oh right I'm Indigo" he stops in his tracks and turn to me giving me a quick up and down glance then says "Unique name it suits you" then he starts walking again. "Girl I have to say you are so pretty even with all those poorly covered bruises on your face and arms" I'm taken aback by his comment about my poor cover up job. I personally thought I had done a good job at covering them up but apparently not. "I can tell you this right now as soon as I saw you walk through them doors I was like yes she is going to be my Bestie" I laugh as we walk to his house and I'm thankful he didn't ask about my bruises. "What makes you so sure I want you as my bestie" he stops and looks at me then starts laughing as if I had just told him the funniest joke in the word. "Babe trust me I can already see it, I'm your bestie, plus I wasn't giving you the choice in the matter now come on" he grabs my free hand because he insisted on taking one of my suitcases for me and he pulls me along with my suitcase to the front door of a small but cute apartment. "Okay now I'd love to stay up and chat but I just worked a double so you my dear can sleep here" he says turning on the light to a cute bedroom with touches of blue and gray scattered through out the decor of it "I'll sleep on the pull out. No arguing" he says holding up his right hand to shut me up as I open my mouth ready to protest. "Now good night I'll see you in the morning k" he does that kiss on each cheek thing then closes the door leaving me standing there with a feeling of hope in my heart.
