That Fateful Day
Jiro's heart was pounding in her chest, a rhythm she matched by drumming her fingers on the countertop.
At the same time, she could feel knots forming in her stomach.
Jiro tried inhaling deeply to calm herself down.
Looking down beside her, she couldn't tear her gaze from the six tests she had bought at the chemist earlier that evening.
All of them were marked with two red lines.
Jiro looked up at her reflection in the mirror on the wall in front of her.
Her eyes were bloodshot and a little swollen from crying.
She had been pulling at her hair, which was now a complete mess.
Just then Jiro heard a gentle knock on the bathroom door.
"Kyo are you alright?" She heard her mother's voice call from the other side of the door.
"We heard you crying."
"Just go away I can't talk right now." Jiro called back, trying to mask how hoarse her voice was from crying.
Her attempt didn't work.
"Kyo, if something's wrong you can talk to us." Her father said from the hallway, trying to open her locked bedroom door.
"Just give me a second." Jiro shouted.
"Alright petal, take as much time as you need." Her mother spoke softly, worry evident in her tone.
Jiro reached into the bin and picked up one of the tests, feeling sick and panicked just looking at it.
Jiro's hand shook as she opened the door.
Unable to meet her parent's eyes, she sniffled as tears flowed down her cheeks to her chin before dropping and shattering on the smooth wooden floor of the hallway.
"Kyoka what's or -" Her mother started to say before Jiro extended her trembling hand, showing them one of the tests.
"My period's late. Almost two weeks. It's Denki's."
Jiro's parents paused in shock for a moment before swiftly pulling their daughter into a hug as she began to cry uncontrollably.
"Hey hey shh, it's alright Kyo." Her father spoke softly while rubbing circles on his daughter's back.
Jiro settled into her parent's embrace and tightened her grip on both of them.
Jiro was glad she had such amazing and supportive parents.
Truth be told, she could murder someone and knew that her parents would still be there for her, not that she would even consider doing something like that.
Well, that wasn't strictly true. There were moments when she felt like killing Kaminari for something or other.
Though neither of Jiro's parents had ever actually met him, they recognised the name 'Denki' as Jiro's boyfriend of just over six months.
The only time they had ever seen the electric hero-in-training was when they went to the Sports Festival to watch their daughter compete.
They had been meaning to invite him round for dinner one evening to get to know him, but they had never gotten around to organizing it.
"Why don't we all go downstairs and I'll make some herbal tea and we can all talk." Kyotoku suggested.
Jiro nodded and the family moved downstairs to the kitchen-living room area.
