Third Person's P.O.V.

Kenny paced back and forth through the living room. His nervousness increasing every time he glanced at the clock. There was another twenty minutes before his dad would be home. Maybe a little more or a little less given how unpredictable his job can be. Either way, it was getting closer and closer to a moment Kenny has been somewhat dreading and somewhat excited for since he was five years old.

He paused in his pacing and glanced at his pointe shoes that were sitting on the floor by the couch. A small smile briefly curled the corners of his lips upwards and he walked over to them. Kenny crouched down to pick them up before taking a seat on the couch. He stared down at his ballet shoes and reminisced on his ballet journey so far.

"Mama?" Kenny asked as he peeked into the kitchen.

"Hey mini muffin," Kai said as she packed away some dry dishes, "What's up?"

Kenny shuffled further into the kitchen and climbed up one of the barstools at the island. Once he was firmly seated, he rapped his fingers on the counter a few times. His face screwed up as he thought about what he was going to say.

"Something wrong mini muffin?" Kai asked, coming up to the island and leaning on it.

"I wanna dance," Kenny stated.

There was a small pause as Kai stared at her son with a confused look. He didn't need her permission to dance. There were a plethora of devices that could play music scattered around the house. All Kenny needed to do was turn one on, pick a song and bop along to the song however he saw fit.

"You don't need to tell me when you want to dance," Kai began, "you know how to use the-"

"No," Kenny interrupted, "I wanna dance like daddy."

"Like your dad?" Kai asked, still confused.

"I wanna do ballet," Kenny said.

"Oh!" Kai said in understanding, "Of course you can mini muffin. I'll just have to discuss your ballet class options with Ben and then-"

"No!"

Kai jolted upright at her son's yell. Kenny has never yelled before. The only thing close to his exclamation being his cries as a baby and a toddler before he could express his needs in words.

"First of all," Kai began, giving her son the look, "we don't yell at each other, okay?"

"Yes mama," Kenny responded, lowering his head a bit, "I'm sorry."

"It's okay mini muffin," Kai assured, "Second, what do you mean by 'no?'"

"Don't tell daddy."

Kai raised an eyebrow and stared Kenny in confusion. Huh?

"I want it to be a surprise."

"I see," Kai said, looking up at the kitchen ceiling in deep thought for a few moments, "Is it that you want to be a professional ballerina?"

"Yeah!" Kenny excitedly squeaked.

"Then tell you what," Kai started as she walked around the island to stand next to Kenny, "Let's go find some ballet class options and you can choose whichever one you want."

"And we don't tell dad until I finish learning," Kenny said.

Kai linked her pinky with one of Kenny's much smaller ones and said, "You have my word. Daddy will find out when you finish training."
