Third Person's P.O.V.
The remainder of senior year came and went. So did the summer and before he knew it, Kenny was packing his final suitcase. His room was almost a shell of what it used to be. That's not necessarily a bad thing. Even if he wasn't going to live at the dorms of his university, Kenny was going to move out eventually. He couldn't stay with his parents forever.
Kenny made a small noise of victory as he finally got the zipper closed on his last suitcase closed. He set the suitcase on its wheels and stood up. Taking a long needed stretch and cringing at how much the joints in his legs popped. He then raised the green suitcase's handle and pulled it towards the other two bags by his door.
"You done packing mini muffin?" Kai called out from downstairs.
"Yeah, all done!" Kenny called back.
"Do you need any help packing up your car?" Ben asked, also from downstairs.
"No," Kenny responded before taking another look at his luggage, "Yes."
Three sets of laughter echoed from the first floor. Kenny sheepishly rubbed the back of his neck and exited his room. Pulling a suitcase behind him while an overstuffed backpack was slung over his free shoulder. It was a little difficult to get down the staircase but Kenny made it to the bottom where his father was waiting for him.
"The other one's still in my room," he said before Ben could speak.
"Got it," Ben said before climbing the stairs.
Kenny continued trudging along until he made it to the door which was already open. His mother was waiting on the patio with his car keys in her hand. She smiled at him and pressed the button to unlock his car. The headlights flashed once, indicating that the doors were now unlocked. Kenny returned his mother's smile and made his way to his car. Once there, Kenny set down his bags to pop open the trunk. Strapping his bags down so that they wouldn't fly about the place while he drove to university.
"Thanks dad," Kenny said as Ben loaded up his third suitcase.
Ben closed the trunk and said with a smile, "No problem, son."
"Catch," Kai said, tossing Kenny his car keys as the pair walked to the front of the car.
Kenny fumbled with the keys momentarily but managed not to drop them. He went up to the driver's door and opened it. Sticking the key in the ignition but not turning it on just yet. Kenny then took a deep breath and turned around to face his parents. All three of them maintained the silence that had fallen over them as everyone wanted to hang onto this moment a little longer.
"You ready?" Kai finally asked.
"You have a long drive ahead of you," Ben added.
"I think so, yeah," Kenny answered.
Kai brought Kenny in for a hug which her son gladly returned.
"I'm going to miss you around the house," she whispered.
"I'll miss you too," Kenny whispered back.
They hugged each other for a few more moments before letting go. Kai's brown eyes were slightly teary but she kept herself together. Kenny felt pressure behind his eyes as well but willed it away. He didn't want to cry right before getting on the road. That would definitely cause some problems.
Now it was Ben's turn to bring Kenny in for a hug. This one was a little bit tighter than the one he received from his mother.
"I'm so proud of you," Ben whispered.
