One

I sat downstairs under the pavilion across from the student center. It was almost time for my English class and honestly, I'd rather be in bed. That was when I saw him for the first time. Mixed in with group of five, the most beautiful, dark skinned man I had ever seen. I didn't listen to their conversation but I was stuck looking at this man's every feature. He was tall and nicely built with broad shoulders. When he smiled, his teeth were perfectly lined up and white. His long dreadlocks were neatly styled and pulled away from his face. I tried not to stare but this man was fine.

"What you studying?" He asked me when he noticed that I had intentionally turned my gaze back towards my textbooks. I was caught red handed. My cheeks felt hot. I knew that I had begun to blush. He sat down next to me at the table and picked up my book. "English I, huh? You must be a freshman."

"Yea." I replied trying to get my composure back. He smelled so good sitting next to me. He looked even better up close. I noticed a tattoo of a lion on his shoulder.

A leo, huh? I thought to myself. I tried to hide my smirk.

"I'm Frederick. You can call me Fred though." He extended his hand to shake mine.

"Vanessa." I placed my hand in his and chills ran down my spine.

"Well, it's nice to meet you."

We sat outside talking and getting to know one another. We talked about everything. The conversation had gotten so good that I didn't realize that I had lost track of time and missed my class.

"Well, I've got to get going. I'll see you around." Fred got up from the table and left. I watched him as he joined his friends and walked to the student center. I was in total awe that he just came over to me. I was never the girl that got the attention of men that was genuine. So I was shocked that when I'd got to college suddenly something like this happens. I knew that wouldn't be the last time I saw Fred and I didn't intend for it to be. The next time I saw him, we'd be exchanging numbers.
