Tartaglia's hydro blades glided effortlessly through the flesh of the last hilichurl in a massive camp of the creatures. He had slaughtered every single last one with ease all because he was bored and couldn't find anything else to do. He had expected to feel something... even just a little bit. But there was nothing left but their lifeless carcasses, and the still empty, heavy feeling in his chest, growing ever bigger with each passing day.
This massacre was no challenge to him, and therefore didn't give him that rush that only a strong opponent could give.

How disappointing... he sighed deeply, wiped a bit of hilichurl blood off his face, and just stared for a moment at the destruction he'd singlehandedly caused.

If he were in snezhnaya now, he'd be having a snowball with his siblings, or fishing with his father... oh how he missed them. Being stationed in Liyue meant rarely seeing them anymore, and only hearing from them in occasional letters. He pretended not to notice how every time he saw his mother, the wrinkles on her face were just a little deeper, or how Teucer was growing up so fast, inches taller every time he visited home... and he was missing all of it. One day Teucer wouldn't look up to him as his hero anymore, his mother and father would be gone, and he most likely wouldn't be there to say goodbye.

His heart ached thinking of it, but every day away from home was a reminder of that reality.

Liyue may have seemed like a good place to be stationed for work, and it was beautiful, but the people he was traveling with for this mission were insufferable, and he wasn't used to the warm, humid, suffocating air. There was no peace and quiet back at camp, only people who constantly wanted something from him, to use him, waste his time. The list goes on and on. He'd rather be alone out here with his thoughts... as dangerous as they may be.
He'd been Tartaglia, the eleventh of the esteemed fatui harbingers for so long that he'd forgotten who he really was and what he wanted in life before joining their ranks. He had hoped taking some time on his own each day would help even get one step closer to finding that missing piece, but so far, it had just confirmed how empty he felt inside for so many years. There were only two things in this world that truly made him happy... and not just the temporary high of adrenaline that battle gave him that left him lower than he was before.

No... truly happy.

And those two things were his family... and—

"Tartaglia?" After a bit of walking in deep thought, a sweet, familiar voice came from across the field of vibrantly colored wildflowers he had begun to walk through.

His head whipped around to see you, and a genuine smile slowly crept across his face without him even realizing it. His legs moved with a will of their own towards you, his very soul desiring to be as close to you as it could possibly get, and he wouldn't dream of stopping it.

"You came all the way out here to see little old me, huh?" he smirked, leaning on an old fence in the middle of the field, with his elbows resting on the rickety wood, his chin in his palms, and head tilted slightly to the side.

You narrowed your eyes at him. "Hmph. Don't flatter yourself."

Though your words gave the illusion you didn't care, your eyes and the slight smile on your lips betrayed you. He cocked his head even further, his charming smile growing even bigger yet, as if pointing out the holes in the facade you were trying to keep up.

"I just came out here to make sure you hadn't got yourself killed yet." He hopped the fence in one graceful stride, and stopped right in front of you under a tall sandalwood tree that towered over both of your heads.
