Sunwoo, a broke college student who worked part time as a delivery guy for a small pizzeria, was being scolded for the fourth time that month. They had that typical policy of "if your pizza is delivered more than 30 minutes after you ordered it, it's free" and this is the fourth time he was late and had to give a free pizza, only this month, and all of them to the same person. The guy of the red building in Pine Drive, apartment 0913.
He tuned out the voice of his boss as he was yelling he'd have to deduct the free pizzas from his salary. He sighed and nodded, waiting for it to end.
It wasn't even his fault that he was always late, the traffic was terrible around the area and that building always had problems, today, the power was out, so he couldn't use the intercom to get the guy to come downstairs for his pizza, he had to wait there until he appeared looking for his pizza. To say that Sunwoo was pissed would be an understatement.
When his boss finished scolding him, he let him go home for the night. It was already past midnight when he climbed up his motorcycle and, with a roar, dashed through the dark streets.
As Friday came again, so did the loathed order, the guy from Pine Drive and his four cheese pizza. He gathered his share of pizzas to deliver, five, and put them in the thermic bag on his motorcycle. He was just a blur as he sped up through the streets with one goal in mind: he wouldn't give any free pizzas today. Although he had to do the Pine Drive guy's delivery at last because his apartment complex was the farthest of tonight's orders, he had a plan, and that was to drive over the speed limit and in between the cars. He knew it was dangerous, but he couldn't afford the pizzas being deducted from his salary.
His deliveries went smoothly, I've got this he thought, as he raced towards Pine Drive. He smirked, triumphant when he stopped in front of the red building. He opened the door and pressed the button of the intercom to ring 0913's doorbell and waited.
He heard a voice coming from the intercom "yes?" Sunwoo cleared his throat before saying "the door is closed", the guy didn't reply for a few seconds "who's this?" he asked. He couldn't stop himself from groaning "Pizzaopolis", nothing could be heard from the other end, so he continued "for Lee Jaehyun?" He heard a click and tried to open the door that led to the elevators but it wouldn't budge, it was closed "open the door, please" he breathed tiredly. "It's open" he groaned again "it's not, try again"and so he did, but nothing.
"Could you come for it?" he asked, irritated. He heard a frustrated yes just before the alarm in his phone rang, 30 minutes had passed. He rolled his eyes and sighed as he waited.
Five minutes later, the elevator's doors opened, the guy unlocked the door manually from inside, Sunwoo frowned, and it opened easily. "Sorry, someone must've locked it before" he apologized with a sheepish smile. He inhaled deeply, trying to resist the urge to punch the guy because he'll have to pay for his pizza now. He shook his head and left to another scolding.
With half a dozen pizzas on his thermic bag, he started his shift the next friday as he climbed on his motorcycle. He hadn't been late any time this week and he hoped this day wouldn't be any different. Some of these days, he had been speeding up over the limit, but no cop had caught him yet and he had delivered every pizza on time, so he was ready to race today too.
He dashed through the streets, smirking to himself at the thought of the Pine Drive guy finally paying for his own pizza, he sped up a little more, just for the thrill of it.
Because Pine Drive was almost at the limit of Pizzaopolis' delivery ratio, the guy's orders were usually the last ones he had to deliver, so was the case this time. As he delivered the other pizzas, he felt triumphant, as if he had been competing against the guy somehow and now, it was finally his turn to win. He laughed to himself, already feeling giddy at his victory, as he drove towards Pine Drive.
