For a being meant to be unfeeling, pure, and completely devoid of emotion, the Hollow Knight was really fucking confused. Every inch of their body ached, and the screeching of light and insideous flapping of wings always in their brain was gone now; it was silent, all for their own ragged breaths. One side of their mask was wrapped in soft gauze, leaving only one eye to see with.
They were shivering; the tall vessel didn't know where they were. Was their mission complete? The Radiance, the Infection was gone now. What were they to do? Was their purpose fulfilled? Were they to be tossed away, same as all their other siblings?..

Well. Not all.

There was Hornet, their kid sister, although in their youth had only seen the little spider briefly as she skittered around the palace. Their only interaction the Knight could remember was a brief nod to her, for politeness' sake.

Then there was this one. Little, but strong, fast and fierce. They wielded their nail with absolute trust in their ability, from what they could remember in the battle with their sibling. It was sad to see the little vessel floundering about like a fish out of water.

The room the two shared was covered in things soft, like blankets and pillows and such. The Hollow Knight was seated in a small nest of colored cushions, and the littler vessel was on a small table covered in a blanket. Examine your surroundings, Knight, that's a rule of battle, Father had said. Where was He? The King would know what to do.

What would the King do? Just sit there and wait? (Honestly, probably,) whispered a small voice in the back of the Knight's mind, and they shook it away with a shiver. Those little intrusive thoughts of treason had always been present, and the Knight had never really known how to get rid of them completely.
The bristling hairs covering their body picked up on a vibration in the air; someone was coming closer. They could hear an unfamiliar voice talking to someone else.

"...You. Go check up on my siblings. I'll search for other survivors."
    "Aye."

The Knight straightened their slouching posture as a heavyset cicada entered the room- she seemed to not notice them, heading straight for their smaller sibling and wrapping them in a bear hug.
"Ayye, little warrior! So we meet again, my friend!" The visitor boomed, and the tiny bandaged shadow seemed to delight in the newcomer's grasp. After setting it down again with a friendly pat on the head, she began to look around the room mumbling something about how "siblings" means "more than one."

She jumped a foot in the air as she noticed the Knight shift slightly. Oops.
